Title: what do you think?
Post by: kauaiguy22 on October 18, 2007, 02:01:24 PM
I have been playing with mazda rx7's for a long time. i just picked up a 72 pinto for $700. I love the way it runs. I plan to build it into a drift/ autocross/ daily driver.
I need info on finding a Limited Slip Differential!

what is the best way to brink it up to 100rear wheel hp? maybe 110?

Here are some pictures!

it is cool If it is a factory v6 car it should have a 8 in ford rearend .Limited slips are fairly easy to come by (the wrecking yards near me they are 150-250 depending on ratio for the whole  8 in rearend)as for 100+HP DO A TURBO 2.3 swap there are plenty of people here that will be glad to help you out..

I really want to avoid turbo, i want the engine compartment as clean as possible and i want the perdictablilit y of the N/A engine. I am thinking side drafts or ITB's and head work. headers?

Since your car is a 72, I am going to guess it's a 2.0 or 1.6.  The 2.0 can be made to make pretty good power (ask pintony)  On the other hand, if it has the 1.6, good luck with the 100hp mark.

Your car came with the 6.75" rear.  Limited slip diffs for those are about as rare as hen's teeth.  If you are looking for better traction, you may have to go with an 8" out of a later model Pinto or a Mustang II.

FYI, the 71 2.0 was rated @ 100hp.  That may have been due to the higher compression ratio of that motor.  I think with basic hop-ups and a good rebuild/blueprinting with quality components, the 2.0 can make respectable power for a 4 cylinder motor pushing 35+ years old.  There are quite a few speed items made for that motor as they are used throughout the Formula Ford racing series.  Also, check out sources over in the UK and the rest of Europe.  These 2000cc motors are very popular over there.

Good luck with your pretty little pony!

Thanks for the help. The car is a 2.0, from what i can see it has a weiland intake manifold and a holley carb? I think it may not be tuned right cause it feels like its under powered. :wow:

so... when shopping for a 8" rear end what do i look for some i can get the one with a limited slip?

And TRY.... to keep it out of the ditches and away from the light poles PLEASE!!!!
