Not to be obvious, but even autocross is going vintage these days with cars this old. Dick has your answers, he's in the upper crust of us old school sages ;D
Yes, it is possible to study and become a master of Pintosophy.. Not a religion , nothing less than a life quest for non conformity and rational thought. What Horse did you ride in on?

I race my 2 litre Pinto built to 1972 Trans Am regs in vintage events about 5 or 6 times each year. Most recently at Kansas Speedway ( surpriseingly good roval ). There are a few vintage Pintos in the country. Always a fan favorite.

By the way Dick, you will notice at the HVR website video, the AH never does catch me.

Also forgot to add, before I built a Pinto, I went to visit Dick. He is the guru of all things related to racing Pintos.

There is a vintage road race club in Denver or there was. RMVR is the name I believe. Last time I checked their cut off date was 1967 so a Pinto would not fit. Maybe now?

I did look into RMVR and if I read correct they are now up to the 1981, and trying to fugure out what i can build/race. Right now wanting to stay pre72  and considering Pinto, or possibly early Falcon. Not wanting to do something mainstream.

Both Dick and I can attest that our Pinto's are bullet proof, dead reliable, and both quick and very easy to drive. I have raced toooooo many different types of cars, from Formula, sports racers, many different sedans, I would not trade my Pinto for most any other car. Just way too much fun to race.

Stay away from 71/73 Pintos as the brakes are much smaller and the 2.0 L engine parts are never more except in England($$$$). Stay with the 2.3 L if possible. Also stay away from the Mustang II as they are way too heavy.

Ok guys...Just picked up my "racecar" She is a 1971 sedan, 2.0 auto, parked back in 1981 and left to deteriate...ni ce solid rust free body. Going to be stripping her down to a bear shell and off to get blasted and then caged. Started to collect parts for her...8 inch from Mustang II, builder 2.3 with t-5, ordered some Bassetts 13x7 with 3 inch back spacing, and going to use some 225/50/13 Yokos for mock up...
Going to to the body/cage and get her a roller before addressing the 2.3/t5 build and this is where my questions begain...
Rear springs??? what rate are some of you guys running?
   Front Sptings??? same as above...
Front brakes...have read some ITB guys are running 10 inch FOX rotors on the front, as Im stuck on running 13inch wheels...What calipers and brackets are needed for this???
Rear brakes...shoul d be easy with Turbo Coupe rotors and after market calipers
   Sway bars...
As the rest of the bulid I think i have her figured out but will be putting it all down on paper some time over the next week or so...for some input.
I'm EXTREAMLY excited about building this little car and as of now there are NO Pintos running in this region RMVR.
So Im looking forward to any and all input and ideas here.
 Thanks

74/80 front springs / cut down(about 1 1/2 coils) / Stock brakes will work till you get it dial'd in / Then wildwood makes a great front brake set up / the 8" rear brakes are ok as is / disk brakes in the rear will gain very little in stop power and cost $$$$ / Bars should be 1" front and 7/8" or 3/4" in the rear / Panhard bar in the rear / De-arch rear springs to have 3" free arch(lay spring in its side - draw a line through the spring eyes and measure from this line to top of the spring & it s/b 3" / Hedmen two piece header is the only one that will not crack / NO SOLID MOTOR MOUNTS!!!! / Cut hole in firewall behind cam so you can remove the cam with out taking head off / 4:11 rear gear with Detroit locker(4:11 gear is a must in Denver) / Mine weighted 1980# when raced with 8gal cell full. /  Chin spoiler a must. And did I say NO SOLID MOTOR MOUNTS. HOPE THIS HELPS.

I am also a member of HVR and will be running the Almost Famous Racing Pinto ( 2 liter ) in the HVR September event at Kansas Speedway, and the Lake Garnett Ks.  Grand Prix Revival in Oct. There is also a Rocky Mountain Vintage Org.  Pintosopher is correct. Dick is the Guru of vintage racing in the entire midwest. He got me started about 15 years ago. Also Andy's in Calif has drilled vented stock size rotors for Pintos.

No can't do Hastings this year.  Only do a couple of events in the fall. Gonna skip Savannah this year also. I do agree with Dick, if you are a first time racer. stick to the 2300, parts are everywhere. Doing a 2000 requires good engine builder, I did 2000, because my car is prepped to 72 Trans Am spects
