Title: Physics and Phonics
Post by: Pintosopher on November 03, 2013, 02:53:58 PM
Well, We know that the design parameters of the Pinto sedan and Hatchback are a compromise to seat 4 adults (small for the rear seat) .  In spite of the poor balance of the 4 cylinder over the front axle centerline, it can still be a superior  or equal racer to the best foreign racing compacts of the 70's and some even today. For those of you who find this a irrelevant issue, please go buy a Kia or any other priceline compact and pat yourself on the back.
The facts are irrefutable, the Pinto was and still is a viable mini Muscle car, especially when tweaked for twisty roads. The problem is not enough of us are motivated to embarrass a Porsche , BMW , or Datsun 510 owner by getting the Pinto balanced  enough to carve a corner like a real driver should.
As you may have noticed, I believe in cars that begin  with Function first, and form  second. I ignored Pintos until I saw a race prepped one at an IMSA race in 1979. Then the Form was intoxicating, and so Now I am a Apex Addict, and have evolved enough to appreciate the many forms Pinto take. I even expanded my unused vocabulary to praise its' existence in prose.  So stand up and sing , take your Kudos when you can, Enjoy the Ride, as all good Horsemen (And Women ) do.
You now have control of your Mind , use it wisely :o
Late braked and over the Limit,
Pintosopher

Oh, so very true! The ricers may out run them now days, but who wants a car that looks like ever other ricer. The only way to tell them apart, is the decal on the center cap of the wheels. And guess where they'll be when their 40 years old. I guess we can do them like the US of A did before WW II, and ship them back to JAYPAN as scrap. Just my two cents worth. By the way, I'm looking for Pinto number 17 as NW Arkansas now puts on autocross's once a month, I've got the "RED MIST" in my eyes again!!!! Pinto's rule forever!!!!
