Title: Our 334,990 mile 1976 Pinto Wagon !!
Post by: mikerich1972 on January 31, 2012, 10:11:47 PM
Yep, all original miles, original 2.3L block, 4 speed tranny. We've had the car since May, 1988 to replace another Pinto wagon we had that got totalled with me in it. OUCH. Yeah, the poor car didn't make it through getting T-boned at an intersection by a loaded 40 mph 1985 Ford 1/2 ton pickup. The last thing I saw before impact was the F and the O on the hood.......... . for real. I guess that must have been like a couple nano-seconds prior to impact. Anyway, I knew for sure that it was a red Ford pickup that tried to drive through the right side.
Well, this replacement car has served us very well; getting me to and from work until I retired in 2003. We also took it out of town (and still do!!) on vacations all these years. There's nothing like the looks we get going over Lolo pass in Montana, or around Coeur D'Alene or Sandpoint Idaho in our old Pinto!
There is a very major local car show in June every year that attracts over 800 vehicles. This last year, we cruised the Pinto!!  :)  Of course, we had the windows open so we could hear the comments. They ranged from "Wow, I had a car just like that back in college!" to "How could they allow something like that in here?"  Oh well. Not everyone shares our love for the underdogs.
Just thought you folks would like to know that the old wagon still runs great, had good compression at last testing (162, 155, 158, 150 in 2009) and is still reliable enough that I never hesitate to take road trips.
I will try to post some pics here in the gallery. Give it a peek!!!!!

BTW... The wheels are from a 1985 Thunderbird, I wanted to put on 14 inch tires for better gearing on the highway.

I love reading about this gorgeous wagon!!! It encourages me when I want to take mine on long trips. Mine don't have the mileage your car has, but hopefully they'll make it. I love traveling in a Pinto! ;D
