I need a C3 to boult-up to a 2.3
« on: March 01, 2009, 04:11:40 PM »
I'm looking for a C3 to use in place of the standard already installed in my daughter’s (16) mini-stock.  Her car is a '68 body on top of an '82 chassis.  The engine has been professionally built and redlines at 9K.  I know, I know, we are going to loose a ton of power/speed by switching but it's her car and her decision.

Any leads or tech info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Sleeper

I think you mean a C4. However i would say that the car would become useless for roundy round after changing it. Ive never heard of anyone ever anywhere using an automatic for oval racing. What i was told is they cant hold up under the severe stress that kind of racing puts on them. Sure a Drag race C4 trans will hold 1000hp for a good # of passes, but they get a chance to cool down and "rest".
I could be way off base here but its what ive been told and heard.

Good luck with the car!

No, I ment a C3.  2.3 to C4 bell-housings are getting rare (non-existent down here) and the other option is to use stepped dowel pins.  Better to use a C3, beef it up, performance parts and rebuild it after the season.

Either way, have come up with another option.  Am going to pull the gold star clutch out and install a new stock clutch.  Easier for her to learn with and saves a $1200 clutch for next year.

Thanks for the reply!

I drag race a 2.3 with a C-3 trans and it holds up just fine now. After some mods it will last just fine. The biggest thing was a good trans cooler with big lines to keep the fluid cool. Try to find a 1981 or newer it has better internal parts. 8)

P.S. alot of short track guys are running automatics these days.

Where are you at. I have a C3 from a 71, I am guessing it was on a 2.0 though. I am in southern California. Let me know if there are any measurements that could tell if it would work for you.
