Title: 72 Pinto pictures
Post by: brirobyg on December 23, 2011, 07:24:55 PM
Hi everyone,

Just gave a new home to a 1972 Runabout. I purchased the car from the original owners and according to everything I was told and from what I've been able to tell by looking it over closely, it appears to be mostly original.

About 40% of the mileage shown on the odometer was racked up being towed around behind a Winnebago, which puts actual running mileage at around 75K. As you can see in the photos it still has the towing brackets below the front bumper (which will become one of the first tasks to remove them).

The funky looking paisley vinyl top apparently came delivered on the car. The A/C was  dealer installed at some point after the car was purchased, which may be why only the windshield and rear windows are tinted and the sides are not? I'm just guessing. It is an under dash unit with a small Ford emblem on it, the compressor is mounted on the left side of the engine next to the distributor. The interior has fabric seat inserts and wood grain insert on the dash and decorative panels above the armrests.

I'm hoping to register it in the spring and get it out to some shows. My original intent was to do a V8 swap and I wanted a clean car to start with. I'm torn on whether to actually go thru with it or not, and I may not if a can find another clean (not rusty) Runabout that maybe has not survived as well as this one has. I had a 71 with a 302 4-speed back in my 20's that didn't last long enough for me to get it out of my system, so I struggle with this extended middle age crisis until I do. I had several other early Pintos as well as a Pangra for a short time before the V8, and loved them all. I'm definitely partial to the small bumpers. I actually had quite a few parts I had saved over the years which I unfortunately lost in a fire a few years back.

Anyone who can provide some expertise on what you can see from the pictures, I'd love to hear the feedback.

Thanks for looking.

Brian

Picture size (files size) needs to be less that 100k each for a total of 4 per post. Image size (800px800p or otherwise) can be anything- it's the file size that is the key. Hdd space on the server is a premium.

Hope this helps,

Dammit dammit dammit dammit DAMMIT!!!

She needs some TLC but she's a beaut!!! Lots of goodie in the options department. My '74 is kinda that color. When my money tree drops all its cash in my lap I want to get mine's paint redone in the same color and have a chocolate-brown vinyl-top put on. I am a fool for vinyl-tops! ;D

If I were you I'd totally keep her stock. That car is much too rare to modify.  A paisley vinyl-top!?! That's rare on classic Mustangs! I've never heard of decorative vinyl roof (as opposed to what we usually see) on a Pinto. It was clearly taken care of, so PLEASE don't modify it! I realize I'm a tad biased towards stock Pintos but this is a show gem as she is!

If you ever get tired of her... I'll be proud to give her a home... ::) ;) ;D

Funny. I say that car on Craiglist at one time and wondered what ever became of it.
