General Help- Ask the Experts... / Re: Pinto California Emissions Questions
« Last post by Wittsend on May 22, 2024, 09:29:15 AM »
This is a smog map of California requirements to smog test the car. 1975 and older cars do not need smog tests. Outlying areas only smog on change of ownership. There rest test every two years. Typical cost is around $60 with coupon. It looks like Dalimoman could be in either the Basic or Enhanced category based on the fact that Napa is a split county according to the map.

Rural areas have a basic test (I believe static, two speed idle test). Also 1976 to 1996 cars have to have an EVAP test which is separate and cost an additional $15-$20. Enhanced areas have the car on the Dyno/Sniffer test when 1999 and older. 2000 and newer only get the OBD II plug in to see what the computer saw.

The lowest cost yearly registration is now $148 per year. We have "Historic" plates too but I don't know the application and limitations. Given I see very few cars with them I assume they are pretty much for Parade Cars only like Model T's.

Mine locks. So, I just leave the keys in the cap. Can't drive away without them that way.

Still seems feasible to me. If you wanted to retain the metal part of the original mount you could notch the rubber with an angle grinder and a coarse disc.

Your Project / Re: Pinto Powered Mustang Roadster

Looking forward to how this turns out and more importantly how it holds up. On my Datsun 510 I filled the cracks with spray foam and then sanded. Then I bought a sheet of vinyl and wrapped it. But that dash didn't have the complex curves of the Pinto.

I found a universal industrial type mount # 2429 available multiple places including autozone, amazon, etc for about $ 7-9.

Only difference is that it has no metal shield and the mounting studs are in the same axis rather than the slight offset on the factory ones and are a bit larger diameter bit same height.

Rock Auto seems to be "Out of Stock" on all the mounts though they list five different types. From what I can see they are a standard round mount with the exception of the safety wire and the half surround on the metal base. You MIGHT be able to find an industrial intended mount of similar size and fit it into a gutted stock mount.

Regarding the polyurethane most I saw stated around a 150-180 degrees limit. On my Corvair being air cooled vast quantities of air are constantly being drawn into the engine compartment so for me it was less concern.

Some ford rangers with the 4.0l engine had torque limiting "shock absorbers" on the drivers side. Early 90's. That might be simpler.

General Help- Ask the Experts... / Gas cap
« Last post by LongTimeFordMan on May 20, 2024, 12:58:09 AM »
Just saw a post here about someone needing a gas cap.. his daughter left it on the roof when getting gas....

I lost 3 that way.. fortunately AZ sells chrome ones...

I fixed the problem...

Now when i get gas i throw the cap onto the driver seat instead of on the roof or on the pump.

Worst case if you forget... you just sit on the cap.....you dont  drive away without it.
