General Help- Ask the Experts... / Re: First timer, dash pad question
« Last post by Wittsend on Today at 11:10:57 AM »
I wish you the best in finding a suitable dash pad. Dash cap? I don't know that any were ever made. Pinto's may just be the most neglected car as far as aftermarket/replacement parts go. There are zero Pinto specific vendors out there. A few parts (mostly engine/driveline) can be sourced from Cortina/Capri specific  vendors (of which there are few).  Perhaps a rare NOS part comes up every now and then. These forgotten Fords are not like early Mustangs where you can build a whole car from parts.

This (the PCCA site) is the only dedicated Pinto site out there on the internet and yet I have seen as many as 10 days go by before a single new post is made.  I'm active on Corvair sites that had a similar year runs (9 years) yet only 1.8 million Corvairs to 3.1 million Pintos. Yet the Coirvair sites get 10-20 new posts a day. They have two main Forums, a number of lesser Forums, at least three major vendors and a dozen or so smaller vendors. The discrepancy in activity, involvement and availability couldn't be more different. I wonder if the Vega guys suffer the same dilemma?

General Help- Ask the Experts... / Re: Pinto California Emissions Questions
« Last post by TIGGER on April 17, 2024, 04:05:27 PM »
I owned a 78 Cal-emissions HB about 13-14 years ago.  It still had all the emissions stuff installed, an 89K little old lady car.  Unfortunately I do not have any detailed pictures of the engine and vacuum lines.  I did create a detailed thread on my dad's 79 wagon with the vacuum line routing.  It is a 4cyl 4spd, non cal-emissions car though.  Even though it is different, maybe the thread will be helpful?  Good luck to you.

I saw on FB yesterday that someone had a black dash pad for sale. I assume crack free but I did not read it.  I believe it was $320 if I remember correctly.

My brother put that header on his 71… had to modify the mount but it worked out fine.

I'm glad yours bolted right up.  On the Pacesetter header I bought, I had to heat and beat (basically flatten) the #3 tube to provide clearance between it and the right side frame rail.  I also had to remove and re-position the right side brace.  It looks cool but I wished it would have been a true bolt-on installation.  What I thought should take 15-30 minutes took the better part of an afternoon and it was in a fairly bare chassis!

Yes!  Bolted right up with no other mods.  2.5” all the way back sounds great too

We had snow this week but the trend is for improving weather patterns.  Hopefully I can transform my Winter storage barn into an operating shop soon.  I need to get back on my project so I can get it done this Summer.  I have priming and painting to do so I need it to really warm up.  There are some other odds and ends I can do until it's warm enough to paint so I will hopefully start posting progress again soon.
