I don't know of availability, but about 40 years ago I had a leaky gas tank.  I removed the tank, sanded it to bare metal, then coated the underside and up over the seam with fiberglass cloth and resin.  I knew some gas stations had fiberglass tanks so I figured it was worth a try.  It worked fine.  No leaks and I drove it like that for several more years until I junked the car.  It never leaked again.

Keep working on it and post your results so we can all learn from each others' struggles.

I'm looking for a usable gas tank with sending unit to fit a 73 wagon.

Willing to travel to get one/pay shipping/whatever. Just need to find one.
Thanks.

Thanks both of you for the tips, I was able to re and re the wiring. Had a problem with the duraspark module but finally got it.
Unfortunately found some serious rot on drivers floor and firewall.
Will be draining gas tank next and see if it fires with new gas.

Your Project / Re: Pinto Powered Mustang Roadster

Not a ton of progress this weekend.  A few tidbits...I keep trying to reinforce and strengthen my steering column mount.  I found that a bracket that I removed from under the dash during Pinto disassembly was just about the right dimension for the right side mount.  I believe it to be a bit more sturdy than the threaded rod I had previously used.  I have no idea what it used to support or connect, but it found a new home.  I have an idea for additional bracing of what is left of the brake pedal mount that used to double as the steering column mount in its original configuration.  Hopefully that will stiffen things up a bit more.  As a reminder, by sectioning the cowl, I lost a lot of under dash space so it's engineer it as I go.  Another thing I did was to weld the endcaps back onto the dash.  My blunder of narrowing the dash has caused me days of extra work that still isn't done!  I also ran the brake line from the distribution block to the rear of the car but I need to return the 2nd 40" line I bought and (hopefully) get a 30".  That should allow me to tie it in at the rear junction block and finish the brake line plumbing.  I am hoping next weekend allows for more project work.  I lost a lot of time preparing my shop for a woman party she held today so that's behind me.  I'll report more as I go...

General Pinto Talk / Re: Pinto in new (ish ) movie
« Last post by Wittsend on September 23, 2023, 10:32:12 AM »
OK, I watched this movie "5-25-77" the other day. The only place I found it was on Showtime..., but now that Paramount+ comes with Showtime that is another route to viewing it. The red Pinto shows up throughout the movie. It is the main characters car.

As to the movie itself, it revolves around a young man who made movies since he was a little kid. It follows his late high school years and his desire to break into the film industry, especially from a special effects perspective. The film is told in "segments" of his life and being it was a rather low budget film that is likely why. My understanding is that this film was shot in the mid 2000's but was released approximately 15 years later in 2022. For the budget it isn't too bad of a film, just not great. I probably give it a little slack being I spent my working career in Film/TV (mostly teaching production). No spoilers here, you have to watch it for yourself.

... My car does bear a striking resemblance to his but it's not the same car. Title of my post was pure coincidence.  :D

Thanks for the reply and thanks for understanding that given the similarities of the cars and name why I asked. Hope the '74-up spindle and brakes work out. Let us know.

Soooo..., did you buy this Pinto Wagon from the individual that went by "Long Time Ford Man" here at the PCCA or are you him with a new ID? The red wagon, dark roof and alloy wheels look like his car. I ask because the title of the post has "Long Time Old Ford Guy" and the similarities with the title and the car seems to be connected??? Maybe not, just curious.

I just looked him up. Looks like he's still currently active on this site. The previous owner of my car had passed away some years ago. My car does bear a striking resemblance to his but it's not the same car. Title of my post was pure coincidence.  :D

I found it on Facebook marketplace. I bought it from a guy named Drew Ward near Woodstock, Georgia. If I recall correctly he said his wife bought it from an estate sale about 5 or 6 years ago but they never got around to doing anything with it. I believe he did say that there were a number of Pintos and parts in the estate sale. It's had an amature level single stage paint job put on it and the masking from the marker lights, etc. hasn't even been removed. I have no idea the history of the car beyond that.
