Title: What Would I Need to Install this T-5?
Post by: Henrius on April 09, 2014, 12:02:47 PM
A mechanic friend of mine was going to give me a Borg-Warner T-5 from a Chevy S-10. He said he has searched all his parts books and cannot find a bell housing for the T-5 that will fit the Pinto 2.0 liter motor.

I need to know if I should take this tranny from him (offered for free!), and what parts I would need to adapt it to my 1973 Pinto with a 2.0 liter and 4 speed.

It wont fit. I forget the list of reasons but a few are wrong input shaft, mounting pad, shifter location & driveshaft yoke. There are more reasons besides those. Also the T5 overdrive is nearly useless behind a stock 2.0 unless you want to run a steeper rear gear

It isn't a stock 2.0. I significantly increased HP.

What is it about this S-10 T-5 that is different than the other T-5 conversions I see on this forum?

Is it that one T-5 was built to fit a 2.3 liter in the Mustang, and also happens to fit the 2.0 in the Pinto?

S-10 has a LOW first gear for pulling stumps out of the ground like a good truck should. Get one out of a Fox body Mustang and the bell housing will fit a 2.0L with step dowel pins.
