Stock compression ratio on 2.3
« on: August 04, 2006, 01:08:53 PM »
What is the stock compression ratio on a 2.3 in a pinto?  I had read that the 2.0 was 8.2:1 and was thinking I read that it was the 2.3 lol.  Is the 2.3 that low?  I know later 2.3s are 9.5:1, but it wasn't that high in the pintos was it?

My 77 had 9.0-1 according to the books. I shaved 0.60" off the head. Theoreticly the new ratio was 10-1 but never checked it so don't take it as gospel. Added Headman Headers 2 1/4 pipes, went from 26mpg to 32 purely on the highway. It knocked some but backed off the timing 4 degrees and it was ok. Later added a bigger cam and could get the timing back and 28mpg.

Really?  9:1 huh?  Sweet, thats what I was aiming for.  I was figuring it was 8.2:1 and I could raise it to 9, but if it's already 9 thats great!

Ok, I found out that 74-75 is definetly 8.6:1, and 77-80 is 9:1, I can't find info on the 76 motor, but I'm sure its either 8.6 or 9 lol.  Good stuff to know.  I got most of my info from the options listings here: http://pintopage.fordpinto.com/

K, so I think the '76 is 9:1 compression, but not 100% sure.  Does anyone know?  Or does anyone know who I could talk to, where I can research, or some sort of book I can check or something?
