Silver paint for dash trim and tail lights????
« on: July 19, 2012, 12:14:20 PM »
Does anyone know of a good (accurate to period)  paint for dash trim and tailight trim for 79-80 Pintos?  Thanks for any input.

I don't know about your taillights, but I used a silver Sharpie on my '77 dash trim.  Came out nicely.

Me too on the dash, not as shiny as original so I make sure to do all (vents, controls, dash trim, etc...) so it all matches

I've had fantastic results using a Krylon Silver Leafing Pen on dash trim - should be available at most any hobby shop or online.  As for using it on tailights, my only experience with exterior use was on the grill of a Dodge D-50 pickup.  In that case, we followed it up with a clear coat.  The truck was sold about six months later but still looked good at that point.

I used the sharpie method on the tail lights of my 1980 & I liked how it turned out.

Does Testors still make those silver paint pens? I've used the same one forever.

Just did some checking online & Sharpie actually makes a paint pen. It looks like the marker but according to what I read it is actually an oil based paint. Available at Michael's craft stores based on the link:

Good find, Matt! I was just going to go with Silver Sharpie, but I think I'll be picking up one of these paint pens soon. I will report back how it turns out, with pictures...

Turned out really good! Is that a dealer installed A/C vent I see there?

Yep I removed the A/C system during the rebuild and the turbo swap,  sold it on ebay some time back. I'm thinking of putting my guages there and removing the vent since it's just a void now..
