rear differential seal

Do I need a special socket to remove the drive shaft so I can replace my differential seal?  Does anyone know the size of the nut if you don't need a special tool?

The driveshaft is held onto the rear axle yoke with 4 nuts. I can't remember the size but they should be a common size. If you are referring to the size of the nut on the yoke then I'm not too sure.

I'm talking about the big nut that holds the yoke to the shaft that comes out of the differntial.

You don't need a 'special' socket. on the 6 3/4 rear, IIRC it was 1 1/4. It's been a few months since I did it, but no 'special' tools are required.
