how many pintos were built with sunroofs
« on: June 19, 2011, 11:07:10 PM »
I am wondering how many pintos were built with factory moonroofs, and if possible how many for 1979?

There were two types of factory sunroofs.  A crank back style and the popup moon roof style.  I know the crank backs were early like 72-75.  I have not seen one that is later than 75 yet.  The moon roofs were the later years.  I do not know how many were built though.

Cant answer your quantity on the sunroof question. However, my first Pinto given to me by a neighbor has a factory sunroof. This was a 1974 trunk model and we had to discard the body as it was to badly rusted-we saved the 2.3 engine and a/t and revived another 1974.

If I find anything out on the sunroof numbers I will let you know.

no one?

it's one of thoes questions that doesn't have an answer pmfman, ford didn't keep detailed records of options like that.

A perfect example... there are reguar wagons with windows, cruising wagons with the port hole and delivery wagon with no port hole, just panel... all were listed as "wagons" with nothing to seperate in Ford's records. Ford only broke down production #'s as...

sedan
hatchback
wagon

and no options/paint/interior/special packages/etc were monitored

the "Sprint" in 1972 is another example, no production #'s, they just built and sold

there is only one - one of one - that I am aware of - Hugh Hefner special ordered a "pink" pinto for one of the "bunnies" and there was a claim of paperwork to prove it but Ford didn't keep the record, the owner/seller claimed to have documents for it however
It's all about the Pintos! Baby!

Hey pmfman:

You might be able to get the information from Marti Auto Works:

http://www.martiauto.com/

You will have to purchase a history report given your VIN.  I purchase a report for my
1977 CW and this some of the information I received.

The 1977 Pinto
Of the
180,001 1977 Pintos,
71,770
of those were 2-Door Station Wagons.  Of them,
54,472
came with 139-2V Engines, and
24,436
of those had 4-Speed Manual Transmissions.
3,034
of them were painted White and
190
of them had Blue Cloth/Vinyl Bucket Seats.
17
of those were ordered with the Cruising Wagon Option.
2
of these had Air Conditioners.  Of these
1
was ordered with the Convenience Group.
The
1 was my Pinto!

Hey r4pinto:

For the 1977 Pinto the Convenience/Light Group is listed as the following.
"This low-cost ($66.00 for my 1977 CW) package includes a host of practical
features:  interval windshield wipers, cigar lighter, day/night mirror, visor vanity
mirror, map light, and lights in glove box, ashtray, under the hood, and in the trunk
or cargo area (except in Runabout).  Also included are courtesy light switch on
passenger door (and on liftgate of Runabout), "headlight on" warning buzzer, and
pivoting quarter windows and bright window frames (both standard on Pinto and
Squire Wagons).
