Title: Head bolt thread size
Post by: r4pinto on January 30, 2013, 07:42:56 AM
Hey guys

On my 1980 Pinto I'm wanting to clean the threads of the head bolts, as well as the threads in the block but I can't seem to find what size tap I need to use. They are the 12 point head bolts.

Thanks for any help!

Think I found it... Sounds like it's 12 x 1.75 which didn't seem to thread. We'll see.

Sometimes they can be hard to get started. I just had that issue with a 3/8-24 bolt/threaded hole for my rag joint. Brand new bolt, didn't feel like it wanted to go. Don't forget to use a lubricating oil of some type, it can make all the difference.

See if you can find a thread chaser instead of a tap. Lessens the possibility of removing part of the original thread.
