Hatch weatherstripping is making my head hurt :(
« on: July 06, 2012, 01:20:20 AM »
OK, 4 hours of searcing the archives tells me that Focus door seals, Ranger door seals, fox Mustang hatch seals & nearly everything under the sun has been used.

Has anyone tried this one? 25 feet should do 4 cars easily & it looks like the right fit for the flange. The only difference is the round shape instead of D shape which wont matter unless you're restoring one to concourse quality.

I'm cheap and will drive my hatch around with no seal before I spend that kind of money on a seal. I will end up going to the junkyard more than likely, as whatever is there is better than what I got now, which is nothing.. Still trying to figure out how the back has zero water in it

i used a 2001 ford focus "2 DOOR" door seal it was like 1 inch to long easy to cut, and its the seal on the body, not the door, works great no leaks down here in the sun shine state during rainy season.  The hard part is finding a 2 door, that is in good shape not torn at the bottom from the drivers feet getting in and out of the car. hope this helps!! thanks

o and as far as being oem, it looks almost identical to me!! same shape and size!!!! good luck

48 bucks for enough to make 4 hatch seals makes them 12 dollars per car. That's cheap. I priced a new Focus seal at 78 bucks so screw that idea. I don't have a Pik-a-part to get a used one from.

I think I'll order a roll & see what I get for my money. Maybe I'll offer up some of the excess to some other members since I only need one.

I have the same problem with my all glass hatch. They reproduce the one for the regular hatch but not the one for the all glass hatch. My father works at a ford dealership and told me the regular hatch(ford part #d7fz-663720-d) was 155" long. The all glass hatch (ford part#d7fz-663720-c)was 206" long. The wagon used (ford part# d7fz-663720-d wagon only) or (ford part#d5dz-6643720 which was a cut to fit seal that was 155" long and they used it on the trunk models). Not really sure why ford just didn't make one 206" long cut to fit and would have just worked for them all? A guy I know bought a gm door seal in a boxs off the shelf at autozone and cut to fit his all glass hatch and it looks great and seals perfect! I will probably do the same for mine and I will list the part # when I find it! Hope this helps anyone!

I got 25 feet of this for under 50 bucks from JC Whitney & it fits perfect.

The smushed original is the top one & the new one is below it. It fits perfectly & 1 roll will do all my cars.

The new rubber is on the left & the stock piece is on the right. Looks perfect & seals great.

I see the link is dead. I'll get the part number off the box when I get home. I hope they still carry it. I just got it a few months ago.

Try this link.

http://www.jcwhitney.com/fairchild-industries-universal-fit-window-weatherstrip-seal/p3039068.jcwx?skuId=163412&filterid=u0j1

The part number is SKU #: 1JA 132568 Mfr #: 1363-25

It looks like the price went up 2 bucks but shipping is still free. I also used a discount code for 10% off that they emailed me.

I have a roll on the way, and will update with fitment results. Needed to re-seal my wagon's hatch anyway.

If there's enough left over to do another car, I'll post it on here in the for sale classifieds. Speaking of, we should start a 'pay it forward' thread. Those are always fun and helpful.

Pinto5.0, if you get the roll and need to get rid of the excess, please keep me in mind... I'll pay you for one hatch's worth. THe blue wagon leaks terribly. I have lots of rust on the floor there where the seal leaked for who knows how long.

Do wagons use the same style of seal? I never checked mine yet to see. I only checked it on my hatch.

The stuff that's 20 bux a roll right? If so that's what I'm using & it was a little short so I gotta get another roll. Other than that it worked good for me!

You may want to check out  Steel Rubber Products. They list a Pinto hatch seal, item # 70-3561-84 It says it's 155'' long (13' ?)
Might want to measure yours first.
It does cost more than the JCW stuff, but may eliminate the back & forth shipping.
Still living the dream...In a points & condenser world.
