early Pinto/ mustang II control arm interchange
« on: April 18, 2006, 07:13:10 PM »
I have a 72 Pinto Drag car that has drum brakes on the front. I bought the Mustang II front spindle/disc brake conversion with 2" drop spindles off of e-bay (fatrodders). I've now found that the spindles are 1" taller. Would bolting on the mustang II upper and lower control arms solve my dilema? Will they bolt onto the frame in the same locations where the pinto's are?  I already have new tie rod ends(mustang II) and a new steering rack(early pinto) that I'll machine and weld adapters because of the different thread size. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WOW Dude you are really screwed!
There are guys out there that say it can be done but I would not try it.
Your only choice now is to cut the early cross member off and weld in a later Mii style cross member.
That is what I did on my 73.

I have seen a bunch of posts that all the later pinto suspention will fit on the early ones IF you use ALL the parts from the later car. I have never owned an early pinto, so I can't say for sure, butI have seen posts.

I ended up just buying a complete wilwood kit off of ebay instead. I'm selling the other complete kit if anyone is interested. Thanks for all the help.
