Yup. Motor didn't even know it was awake until at least 3500 rpm in dead stock form. We street raced the one I referred to with single 4 bbl., Mellings cam, Hooker, and 4.56 gears and a terror then. Could touch high twelves with slicks. Later, Weiand 2X4 w/Holley 750 DP, a really big stick can't remember the spec, 6.14? rear gear + 2.78 low toploader. Motor punched +.030" to 305 inch and open chambered the head with custom piston to match and severely angle milled. Freaking car pulled so hard in low and 2, you lost the blood flow to eyes to get tunnel vision like the Millenium Falcon. Man that little engine ran good. Lakewood traction bars only with no other work done to suspension, seems like 32 or 33 inch tall 14 inch wide tires to cross finish line at around 8000 rpm.
That engine screamed to breathe, when putting headers on it we got the highest % HP improvement I've ever seen on a car, and I've been around a few...........
.the motor had a very unique nasal sound, down low I always said it sounded like a child sniffling his nose, kinda like it was loading up but never did. But get it above 4000 and brother that engine went to a scream I've never forgotten. And at 6000+ pure music.........
.....
It got sold and the guy driving it dropped out of the tens to bumping eleven teens and could not figure out what was wrong. Me and former owner/friend went to strip to chase it down and realized almost instantly the guy only running on 7 cylinders there. Long story short the motor had popped a rod, it bent into its' mate without breaking it to spin two as one and the piston stopped and locked in bore right at tapping the valves. He was running low elevens with a broken rod.........un
believable!
Put an ATX on a Boss motor?
