im wondering about getting larger rims on my wagon( i would stick with the 13s if i could find the flat black i want). i found some 15inch that i like but i was wondering what id need to do in order to make larger wheels fit, if anything at all.

Any of the Mustang four bolt wheels will fit but you need to pay attention to the total diameter of the tires. I have Mustang Pony rims(16X7)from a 91 GT on mine.


[size=78%]I started with 205/50/16 tires all around but experienced minor rubbing in the front wheel wells. I put 205/45/16s on the front and Shazaam, no more rubbing. The back does not rub, but they could use a 1/4 0r 1/2" spacer to get a little more clearance relative to the leaf springs and inner fender well(I found slight rub marks there). With our cars being so light(<2500#)the 205s are really all the tire the car needs to handle as well as it is capable of doing, but wider does look better and the Pinto can carry a huge tire in the rear with careful wheel selection, but with stock suspension we are limited in the front.


Eventually, I am aiming for getting a complete set of 2003 Cobra wheels(17X7-9 in front, 17X9-11 in the rear)along with a Cobra IRS and longer front A arms in front to match the track(stock 56, Cobra 60)and wheel offsets. 225-245 in front, 245-275 in the rear(IE roller skate). The companies supplying the hot rod industry based many of their front ends on the Mustang II, that is exactly what later model Pintos have under them, so custom pieces are easy to get and relatively cheap. You can get 13+ inch brake kits that bolt right on, custom length A arms with or without strut rod elimination, coilovers or even pushrod springing, 2 inch drop spindles, multiple sway bars and poly bushings. In the rear we must get more creative, either old school leaf spring upgrades or trash the whole setup for something else...

Tire Rack has charts that give specs on nearly every size tire made. Generally speaking you can fit a 25" OD tire out back without rubbing & a 24" OD up front. Larger fronts rub the plastic liners when turning.
