2.0L and 2.3L Engine Weight???
« on: September 16, 2010, 04:50:21 AM »
I'm looking into possibly purchasing an engine hoist and stand for my dad's shop for when I rebuild/refresh the motor in the 73' Station Wagon. However, I also want the stand and hoist to be able to withstand the weight of the 2.3L of my 78' Sedan when I plan to pull that to repaint the car.

Harbor Freight has a Hoist with a 1 ton capacity, which I know is more than enough. They have two stands which I am interested in though, one that will hold 350lbs and one that will hold 1000lbs, trying to decided between the two, as I will most likely be purchasing these early next year.

i got 2 of the 1000 pound stand they work great one has a 351w on it and the other is holding my 2.3turbo.

If i was you id just spend the lil extra because you never know you might wanna build a v8 somday and the little one would prolly buckle with one.

Dave,

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'd also advise you to spend a little more and go with the heavier stands... you never know when your interests might diversify and you may need that extra capacity someday.

As stated above.  spring for the big one.  The 2.3 is no featherweight to start with. i would also recommend making sure to get a 4 wheel model vs the one with only a single front caster as it is way more stable when you are reefing on the front main caps n stuff.   i have both a 750lb  3 wheel model and the larger 4 wheeler.   the big one sags less and is more confidence inspiring.

Modest beginnings start with the single blow of a horn man..    Now when you get through with this thing every dickhead in the world is gonna wanna own it.   Do you know anything at all about the internal combustion engine?

Don't know what a 2.3 weighs, but the 2.0 weighs 297 pounds without fluids.

Fred, I would love to take you up on the offer but can't right now. I will keep it in mind though. I have a large checking coming my way from vacation time I didn't take before my store was franchised out. I will see how much I have coming my way and hopefully be able to get it from you!

I weighed the 2.3 out of my '76 Pinto.  It was complete and ready to run with the alternator, stock exhaust manifold carb, air cleaner, etc.. (even full of oil).
I don't remember if it had the clutch disc installed but the flywheel was on the engine.

There was no power steering pump on it and the weight was 386 pounds exactly.
