76 pinto 5 lug conversion
« on: January 28, 2014, 02:03:08 AM »
Hey I'm wanting to change my 76 pinto wagon from 4 lug to 5 lug. I already have the 5 lug wheels with ford bolt pattern. Basically I'm wanting to do this and have very little knowledge on how to do it. Would you guys and girls like to inform me on what I need, pricing, and just telling me what I have to do to get this done. Thanks

The front rotors will be easy. Mustang II rotors will solve that problem since they are a Pinto anyways lol. You can use the 75-78 V8 rotors. They will be 5x4 1/2 bolt pattern. You can pick up a pair of those for about $100 on Ebay. What kind of back space do the wheels have that you picked up already?

The rear axle will depend on what engine you have. Is the car a V6 or 4cyl?

Just a thought, but has anyone ever tried using 4 to 5 lug adapter spacers?  I see a lot of the euro community doing this on their cars and wondered if the spacer and conversion would work good.  If you're not putting a lot of hp down, then I wouldn't think it'd hurt.  May be a good option for the rear end and just swap the fronts over to Granada for better stopping power on a larger wheel.

Thats wrong All Mustang II v8 or not were 4 lug same 4x108 as a pinto.

For the front the simplest and cheapest is to buy a set of speedway 5 lug 9.25 inch rotors 29.99 each x2. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Mustang-II-Disc-Brake-Rotor-5-on-4-1-2-Inch,1964.html

Or if you have the cash you can get a 11inch 5 lug kit through them as well which will help it stop better.
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Mustang-II-Complete-11-Inch-Brake-Kit-Ford-5-x-4-1-2-Bolt-Pattern,2008.html

And for the rear either use a set of adapters 4x4.25-5x4.5 or If you have a 8 inch get 5 lug axles/brakes if not find another rearend that is 5 lug (9inch,8.8)or the last way is to have your axles/brakes re-drilled by a machine shop to 5x4.5 bolt pattern.

80's Granada! that's a great idea but to find one to strip the brake parts from good luck, would have to buy all new, which would be the better way to go, but will be costly-

but great idea and info thanks  pinturbo75

Actually eBay has quite a few auctions with those rotors for around $100 for the pair. A few auctions were for singles for $25.

actually you need 70's granada parts. Once they went to the fox platform it also followed suit to 4 bolt , and since it's fox based there are interchange issues.    If you are ok with having 25 cent piece sized brakes you can order the mII/pinto rotors with any bolt pattern you wish as they are super popular for hot rods in the aftermarket that use the suspension design.  the better route is to get a set of 78 granada rotors, stock pinto wheel bearings and seals. this will bolt the rotors on and give the proper 5 lug pattern. Order a set of hundred dollar adapters from mcgyvers or ebay that allow you to bolt on a pair of early 80's gm metric calipers/ pads from say an 81 camaro  get the metric banjo bolts too and add a set of soft lines for an 88 blazer 4x4 flipped from side to side which will allow you to mate to the factory hard line.

For the back either upgrade the axle (several options here) or get the originals redrilled for 5 lug.  I ca not explain how bad an idea adapters are...
Modest beginnings start with the single blow of a horn man..    Now when you get through with this thing every dickhead in the world is gonna wanna own it.   Do you know anything at all about the internal combustion engine?

Even the rotor swap up front will cause the rims to sit way in (on late mustang wheels), I'm going to run rotors and a spacer on the front, 1" is what I've read works best.
