Dear 71pintok,

I write for Motor Trend Classic magazine, and I've been tasked with writing a feature comparing the Ford Pinot against its contemporaries the Chevy Vega and AMC Gremlin. Your club appears to be robust and nationwide. Gremlins also seem to be ubiquitous. Vegas don't seem to enjoy the same level of ubiquity--apparently they rusted to oblivion in greater numbers than Pintos and Gremlins did. Anyway, I've found a really nice 1973 Vega on Long Island, NY. I was wondering if you might be able to put me in contact with a member with a stock Pinto, preferably 1971-1973, somewhere in that general area.

I also have a couple of lovely Gremlins in Palm Springs. If I can find a Vega, that would be a second potential location. The other day, I thought I found a nice small-bumper Pinto around there by clicking on the pins on your map, but today I can't seem to find it. If yours is stock and you're willing to drive from Toronto, that might be great too (the Vega has 5500 miles and he's less willing to road-trip in it).

He sent me a pm and said he is in talks with a guy in Minnesota. There is a Pinto in a museum with 10000 miles on it.

Looks like this is coming together,possible dates are the weekends of 6/11 or 6/18. Lining up an enclosed trailer,tow vehicle is being also lined up and I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Well folks, we're a go! The weekend of 6/11 looks to be the date. I've got a enclosed trailer lined up,an editor from MotorTrend is coming in from Detriot with a F250 to pick up the car and trailer. We'll be spending at least one night in Springfield Mass. for the shoot. I've got to get hold of a PCCA golf shirt (Scott, call me!). Now I've got to detail the heck out of the '72 between the Carlisle show and the following weekend...too much to do and not enough time! I'll keep you all updated.

Got back from the shoot today,had a great time with the folks from M/T. Was treated like royalty,they went out of their way to make us comfortable. It rained better part of the day but the photographers did a GREAT job with each car,they took some interesting group photo's. I spent of time with each car owner, both are very knowledgeable about their car brands. The Pinto showed very well against the Gremlin and Vega. The issue should be ready late July/early August,it's their Classic edition. It runs about $15.00 on the newstand. Thanks for all the support, I hope I did the club and the Pinto justice.
