Weather Seal/Striping Set Doords & Windows
« on: June 09, 2017, 03:37:38 PM »
I'm sure this has been asked before.. but I need a complete set of side door & rear door & all window & windshield rubber for my 73 Wagon. It now has has the Porthole Panels so I don't need those window rubber. What's the best and the most cost effective place to buy new? I thank you all in advance.

Michael

I took a look at Steele Rubber quickly. Yikes. Looks like to would cost more to re-rubber a Pinto than many have paid for them! http://www.steelerubber.com/search?year=1973&make=ford&model=pinto&style=2-door-wagon

Glad I pulled "better than what I have now" rubber out of Pinto's at about $3 a piece when I found them at Pick Your Part. I didn't recall seeing a rear hatch seal for the wagon. I've looked at a lot of seals in the yards and the one I thought came the closest to the Pinto still missed by quite a bit. So, finding something to work there is going to be a chore.

If money is an object you might find other cars that do have something adaptable.  The 1st Gen. Mazda MPV has door seals that resemble that typically used on a lot of 60's/70's cars. I used them on my '64 Studebaker. Even though over 15 years old the rubber was very good and at $3 a door it was a good fit for my wallet.

Another post says you can use a 98 extended cab Ford Ranger door gasket for the rear wagon hatch.  will be few inches longer so one cut. http://www.fordpinto.com/parts-resources-here-is-where-you-can-find-this-or-that/ford-pinto-wagon-rear-door-gasket/msg119367/#msg119367

Unfortunately that post refers to a hatch and is different than the rear door on a Wagon. After the rubber slides over the pinch weld it needs to go a fair distance to the rear to seal at the bottom.  I found something in a late 90's Cadillac and thought it might work, but it still comes up short. And, after looking at MANY cars that was the closest I could find.

I have an '80 wagon, and 3 years ago I used a door seal off an 1998 Ford ranger to replace the seal on my wagons rear door. It has the same profile (important) and was a couple inches longer. It works perfect....... ..........seal s great. A new one from a dealer is about $20........so a junkyard is a good bet. Reg. Cab Ranger doors 1998 thru 2010 are the same. ;)

Thanks for clearing that up.  The bottom section seems the most difficult to seal.  I'm tired of the fumes. I'll be looking into it shortly as I'll be going by Pick Your Part tomorrow.
