Sell or scrap the V6 stock Pinto 1977 Engine
« on: October 01, 2015, 10:31:34 AM »
I bought a car with a 1977 Pinto V6 engine in it. It runs fine but I am going to be dropping a 289 v8 in it next week so the engine will be available. Is this something somebody would be interested in (it may not include the valve covers, but will include the carb as I want to do fuel injection.

Anybody interested in this engine for a couple hundred and you pay/pick up in Northern NJ, or should I just scrap it?

I wouldn't just scrap it, I'd put it on CL first never know someone could be looking for one..

hi,  if you scrap the motor please let me know.  I need the carb throttle bracket for the 2.8 that bolts up to the carb spacer and you hook the line to it for the throttle. i can send a picture of what i am talking about.

please keep me in mind when or if you scrap the motor.

thanks

Just push it over by the couch, throw a doily and a lamp on it.

Definitely do like Art says and put it on craigslist and I would do it today. Engines do tend to sell better if the buyer can hear it run, otherwise most won't pay very much for one.

Just in case you don't know, nothing from the V6 will work on the 289.
Was wondering if you thought you might be keeping the valve covers to use on the 289.

Please don't scrap that engine.. it's a Cologne,(German) engine.. it's the very engine I'm looking for for my Pinto wagon..  although NJ may be a bit far for shipping,(I'll have to look into that)..

Please tell me more about the engine, if you still have it.. ? Many Thanks..

I was thinking of using the valve covers, thanks for letting me know.

Yes, it is the Cologne German engine from a 1977 Pinto. I even just put on new plugs, wires, etc. as I wanted to work on it myself (still a rookie). A mechanic friend will be the one helping (or basically doing) the new engine.

Michael, call around quickly as I will be something with this soon and would love to find it a good home. The first $150.00 gets the engine, but does have to take care of shipping. It really seemed to run fine, I just wanted an animal in my new pinto. Feel free to email me at jharmke@yahoo.com

Well, not to talk myself out of a new engine or anything.. but there's a good reason I'm looking for a 2.8 Cologne V-6 engine.. it's lighter that a V-8 & if you can find a good mech that knows V-6's, you can get nearly as much power/weight out of that engine.. ..and without killing the gas mileage too.

;)

the 2.8 was not a bad engine , just that not everyone did the maintenance that was required to it, valve adjustment, and keeping the cooling system in top order , but when I rebuilt my 2.8 I wish I just went ahead and used the 2.9 out of a ranger , yes it will all bolt up, oil pan will fit, along with the trans and engine mounts, only you have to wire in the EFI on it, also good that no valve adjustment is needed ,

i have to second this,  my little 2.8 with the mods that i did to it makes the car boogie and sounds like a V8 to boot.

just going back to this thread to see if there was any updates to what happened here with the engine.

thanks

nope not for me , my V-6 is running great with the mods I have done to it, ran it this weekend to wash out the rear fender of any dirt before I replace it,  the engine now has over 10K on it now and due for a valve adjustment , still looking back I should have went ahead and used the 2.9 so I would not have to do adjust valves , still almost a drop in only got to wire in the EFI
