Hard to tell without turning it over. The Mustang II with a 2.3L had two different tranies. One like a Pinto and one that looked like the RD used in the v-8 cars. The people on the Mustang II web sites say there was never a Pinto type tranie in any Mustang II, but my factory FOG manual says the pinto traine was used in both.

You are right on that dick1172762, the early mustangs two did use the pinto four speeds on the 2.3 , and later went slowly to the I think RUG trans , like the pintos mustangs C-4 to the C-3's , I remember because of all the clutch's I changed when parents brought their kids a car for high school , most if not all including the parents did not know how to drive a standard trans , yep , nothing like the smell of burnt clutchs and clutch dust to make your day, at least back then the ford dealer I worked for was not a greedy as the ones today ,

Off the top of my head, I can think of eight vehicles I've owned with a  manual transmission, the first being the '74 Pinto Runabout I bought new when I was sixteen (no, my parents did NOT buy it for me).  The last I had was in Ranger pickup that I sold when it had 146,000 miles on it.  I never burnt a clutch so am totally unfamiliar with that smell!

Welcome to the world of knowing how to drive a standard , some people were born with the talent of figuring out things right away, but not everyone, I have never fried one ether , but have tried to teach a few how not to, you know the ones that can not walk and chew gum at the same time,  but for those who never had the pleasure of the smell of a cooked clutch all I have to say is it does has the same aroma as fried brakes ,  enjoy :o

Well, I actually DID try to teach both my wives how to drive a manual transmission, and both attempts were a dismal failure!  The up side of that is that I never had to worry about either of them driving my vehicles!  lol  Wife #2 came a lot closer to "getting it" than Wife #1, but it was truly a "no go" on both accounts!

I must be one of the Lucky Dudes! My Wife started out with a '74 Runabout auto, went to our '84GTI 5speed, and 89 XJ Cherokee 5 speed, and hates the Dakota auto we have. She even drove the '72 Pinto racer we have when it had plates on it . Though the 72 Pinto was intimidating with the Snappy acceleration and 150+ hp on tap. But then again, she's good with a floor jack too when we raced the Pinto ;D

Oh I agree, the First wife was, Challenged? But she did ride the Honda 200 bike I bought her, and was adept at the 68 Firebird 4 speed, Drank and abused substances. My current Keeper does nothing like that, and loves cars, Jeeps, Pintos and puts up with me! ;) Now I think she wants another Pinto with a 5 speed and YBG Cossie motor.   :)
