Title: New Ignition for 2,8L V6 Cologne Engine?
Post by: jviehoff on February 19, 2014, 09:51:45 AM
Hey,

I#ve been having some problem with my ignition since I bought the car and started building it up again.
Now I finally wanted to get it done and after the final touch I tried to start the engine aaand...dead.
The ignition is completely destroyed, I have ni clue why. I checked everything with my mechanic and another guy who mostly does the electronic work on classic cars for us.
Now I'm trying to find a new ignition system with everything. Distributor, ignition box, cables, everything.
I've been looking for Duraspark ignitions but couldn't find anything useful. Even the shops that officially sell ignition kits for classic cars only have kits for 4cyl motors or half baked crap.

I wanted to ask if any of you know where to get useable ignition kits, all inclusive, for a 2,8L V6 Cologne Engine.

Thanks upfront

Zouz

'The ignition is completely destroyed..... ............'

I highly question that and your mechanics as well. How does an entire ignition get destroyed?? And not likely. The distributor will be physically broken or it's still useable, maybe needing something as simple as a pickup which is cheap. The module could be bad, you need the regular blue grommet module. There are tests that can easily pinpoint module or distributor as to the problem. Highly unheard of for both to be bad at same time. You could simply have a broken wire and no start.

Your lack of further detailed knowledge is killing you here, the wiring is simple anybody can do it stuff and detailed wiring diagrams are everywhere.

'All-inclusive' is the word that is a buzzword for 'charge me ten times what it worth'.............. .man I converted my 2.3 four from points to electronic using maybe $20 worth of accumulated junk and it ran for years with zero issues. The Duraspark module is the same for 4, 6, or 8. Distributor is the difference. There are a couple of oddball ignition modules with different grommet colors that incorporate screwy things like retard at starting and other weird stuff but the blue grommet module is the one that works on all except maybe turbo stuff. There is an extra wire on early boxes until like '76 or so, it is for a zener power diode that gets dropped in later modules as the circuitry then is all internal for power spike control. The blue wire IIRC is the one that disappears. I've used both boxes interchangeabl y as long as you plan on the extra wire if needed.
