Title: Need stock radio very badly.
Post by: mrlightrail on April 30, 2012, 06:18:18 PM
My 76 Pinto Wagon came with a stock AM radio, but I discovered that it is dead. Wanting to replace it with a AM/FM radio from the same vintage. AM would be ok, but I will go nuts if all I have to listen to is Right Wing Nut Job radio.

If you have one, or know where I can snag one, please let me know.

Edit: It's a 76, not a 79...oops.

Still looking?  I think I have both.  Bought on sight.  But they appear correct to me.  Know the AM works.

Hey, do you work in "lightrail" as your handle implies? Our son does in Houston.
I have a suggestion that will be a vast improvement over that "RWNJ" AM station. I could sell you an extra radio bezel for $10+shipping. You can then cut it out for a "modern" radio/CD/MP3/QRZ/and whatever else is new? Keep your stock radio and bezel for "when the time comes". :'(  Another option is installing an AM/FM/CD in your glovebox using an extra glovebox insert. ($10+ship). That way your dash still looks completely stock after you buy that working AM radio from Fred Morgan. A third option is to check E-Bay and other on-line resources for one of those "look-a-like" AM/FM/CD radios that look just like your AM radio but have all those other features. I'm sure they are made at least for Mustang II's so would be the same thing as Pintos (Mustang II's from 74-78. Most had upgraded radios.) I had 2. One was a cassette and the other an 8 track but both AM/FM. Guess that's option 4 since there are still a few Mustang II's around. They have their own website just like Pintos.
Good luck! Brian 918-916-2255 (McAlester, Oklahoma)

Just Kidding, but if you don t like the right wing, shouldn't you be on the "VOLT" forum?
Hope you have good luck finding what you need, and please believe me when I say I was trying to be humerous.  ALl PINTO OWNERS are good people.

Still looking. I have a XM radio I will use for more modern listening, but am REALLY wanting a good working AM/FM/8 Track player that was stock for the Pinto to install in my bezel. I've got about 50 8 track tapes in good shape I want to play, and it will make the car as period as possible.

Going by the Ford parts book - the part number is D6FZ 18806 A for what they describe as being a
AM/stereo tape for a Pinto up to '78. '79-80 went to cassette.
I don't know how much you're willing to spend and I have no prices, but Green Sales in Ohio shows they have one in stock and Larry Allen Motor Car Co. in Parsons KS (620-421-0100) also shows one.
Thats all I could find out for you.
