« on: June 22, 2010, 01:18:35 PM »
It's near Vancouver B.C.(you pick up) I bought it from a guy that got it for his dune buggy. He said it's low K and ran great !He just found a rebuilt vw so had no use for it .I bought it for my 1973 wagon but it won't work for me.Going to stay 2.0. Thanks.

It's a bummer you're not nearby... I would buy it for Wildfire.

The 2.3 is on a stand and I can't find any numbers on it . It has the cat on the manifold if that helps.

Has it gotten to the point that a late 70's 2.3 is getting so rare that an 8 year old post is revived?  Nothing against the guy asking, it seems he has a need, just wondering.

tombfxnt is a brand new member; that was his first post.  I'm guessing he did a search, that old post popped up, he was excited to see it and posted a reply without ever noticing the date.  Frankly, I saw the post this morning and I didn't notice the date either, although I guess if I were in the market for an engine I might have paid more attention.

tombffxnt, the last Pinto was built 38 years ago in 1980, the first 2.3 in 1974, 44 years ago. Finding an engine, especially a decent one will not be that easy. That said the greater 2.3 engine was built until 2001 but there were many changes and not everything is adaptable.

I do not deal with a regular wrecking yards. But I have experience with hundreds of trips to self serve yards. I haven't seen a Pinto in about 3 years and those I have found were "well worn."  If you need an engine you might consider rebuilding the one you have, or adapting a later 2.3. But all that will be predicated on the desire to keep the car stock, modify it, your skills and your budget. all the best in your search.

I have a 2.3 for sale 39000 miles from  either 79 or 80 Pinto can't remember. Garage kept since removal, but price must be worth my while to crate it for shipping.
The older I get, the faster I was
