Interior paint color
« on: April 18, 2015, 08:10:07 PM »
First, I apologize if this is covered elsewhere.

I'm finishing up a restoration of a 73 coupe. The interior is a light chocolate color of brown.

I just want to touch up the metal on the doors and dash. I've bought 5-6 different spray cans but can't find the right shade.

Does anyone know where I can get the exact color that the car came with?

Thanks!

I forgot to mention that the project is turning out pretty good.

My suggestion (and what I did with mine) is take it to an auto paint store and have the original paint computer scanned.  Then they will custom-mix paint to match.  It's a bit pricey ($15-20 for a rattle can) but cheaper than buying 5 - 6 cans that don't match.  Good luck!

The car looks great. If you really want it to look good, you should paint the whole thing. Mask it and paint it.
Vehicles:

- 1972 Plymouth Duster (To be a Pro Street)
- 1973 Ford Pinto wagon (registered ride 195)
- 1976 Mustang II mini-stock
- 1978 Mustang King Cobra II
- 1979 Ford Pinto Runabout
- 1986 Chevy K5 Blazer
- 1997 Suzuki Marauder

Thanks, Dwayne and Dianne.

I tried getting the paint custom matched at an auto paint store. You're right, Dwayne, it's spendy. But it still didn't match. Plus they made it semi-transparent despite knowing what it was for. Go figure.

I'd hoped to only paint spots, but if the paint doesn't match exactly, I'll paint all of it as you suggest, Dianne.

Again, thanks for the suggestions. It's much appreciated!

Bum deal!  I still think it's you best course of action, but I'd ask around and find a store with a better reputation.  There's no excuse for that kind of shoddiness!

You talked me into it.  :)

I'll give it another shot at a different store.

Thanks for the support.
