You would be much better off replacing it with a couple of u-joints. MUCH more positive steering.
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.

Joints are the way to go. I wouldn't trust one of those to any kind of large horsepower under the hood.

Anyone cut one apart before ?
Is it just a solid rubber , wrapped in that wire ?

I have a couple new from Flaming River u-joints, part # FR2631
It would fit at the rag joint, except it's too long.

I'll tear apart a spare steering I have to see how the top end of that flex "rod" connects....

Actually those are twisted wire, similar to a speedo cable. They are crimped into the ends.
