2.3 oil pan

looking for an oil pan that has a front sump for my 2.3 swap. my pan is dented pretty bad and would like a replacement one. does any one have one for sale or know where I could get one?


I tried but didn't know how to edit the title on my last thread.

That's one thing that is very hard to find these days. I stumbled onto a 7qt race pan when I needed one, but only acquired a stock one by buying a parts car. In fact, parts cars are easier to find IMO.

Funny thing is that the 7qt race pan was made by modifying a later stock rear-sump pan. I might try that myself with the old Thunderbird pan now that I have a TIG welder.

In your case though, I would take a body hammer and dolly to what you have. Actually, if appearance isn't a big concern and as long as the pickup isn't obstructed by dents and the pan isn't cracked or leaking, I'd rather leave it alone.

I'll second that. I've only seen one or two pans that could not be fixed. Dents are easy to fix most times. Cracks are easy with a welder. A piece of 1 inch round bar stock about 18 inch's long and a BFH will allow you to reach the bottom of the sump.

To check the pickup clearance what I do is to cut a piece of material 3/8 inch thick. An old magazine or plywood just so long as it fits the bottom of the sump. Then install the pan without a gasket. If the pan sits flush on the block your ok. If you want to know how much clearance you really have add more material to the sump till the pan doesn't fit flush on the block. Biggest place where the pans leak is around the drain plug. Harder to fix but doable.

I just use child's clay or plumbers putty between the pick up and the pan. It helps to use something like powder or oil so the pliable doesn't stretch when the pan is removed.  BTW, this works well for hood clearances too.
