Colchester CT, Vernon CT cruise nights.
« on: April 24, 2006, 09:57:27 AM »
I took the turbo out to the first cruise night this year in Colchsester CT last Wednsday, it was also the first one for me for the year, as well as the first time at that location. My wife had to work late that day, so I went solo. I parked next to a newer stang conv. with the 'lambo' (lame-o) doors. (I saw an ad from a company that makes and installs those kits say that now-a-days you can't win in a show without them; How convenent, and self serving) I am not saying it was not a nice car, but with so many cars with that door thing, big deal. it was the only car THERE with them. The good thing is I did not have to worry about getting a door-ding. I was tempted to leave my doors open too, but I did not want to drain the battery from the interior light.

We went over to the one in Vernon on Friday night, but apperently they did not start for the season. We have been working on the paint on her car so it was not going either. Hers should be ready for this friday night (regardless).

Hello Bill,
For me it is not about the other cars being better!
 It is about the People!
Getting my Pinto out so the masses can get a look and smile.
I meet so may really nice people when I show my Pintos.
That is what make all the work worth the effort.
Always hoping to meet someone that owns a Pinto and adds another member to this group.

I do go there for the people. It was just an interesting side note. The owner of the stang was kool, I talked with him for a while.

Some VW friends of mine attended the McDonald's Glastonbury cruise last night (or possibly Tuesday night?) and saw your and your wife's cool Pintos on display. I'll have to see if I can post a picture or two that one of my buddies took (that's the two of them posing in the shot with your cars).

Looking good!

Wow, Steve
What a small world.  We talked to those guys for quite a while and I knew they were taking the pictures for a pinto friend of theirs but I never expected to see them here.  Thanks for posting them.  They had a couple of impressive bugs at the cruise night and the grey one took a trophy.  All of us CT pinto owners should get together for ice cream or something.  I'll talk to Bill and see if we can put something together.  Hopefully we'll see you in Glastonbury some Tuesday night!

Hey, that's pretty cool, Connie!

I know those guys from New London get around with their cars too (I took some pictures of them & met them at the Chesterfield "Natures Art" cruise last summer: http://members.aol.com/cgextras/ChfldNatsArtCruz2005.html). I'll have to see if I can touch base with them and get their feelings on a possible Glastonbury drive some time.

We also had our Pinto out at the Jazz Festival in Moodus this past summer: http://members.aol.com/cgextras/JazzFest2005Review.html - it's a fun day and antique car owners get in free--I know my wife's going to be out of town that weekend this year, but perhaps between myself and my brother-in-law, we might be able to get it out there again this year--it's July 30th this year: http://members.aol.com/cgextras/JzzFstFlyer.html

And there is another thread in the "Pinto Car Show Presence" category where I think I mentioned participating in the big Durham show last summer with the Pinto--this year's event is Sunday July 23rd: http://www.geocities.com/tbirdsofconn/timemach.html

Anyway, hope to run into you and Bill some time!

Kool stuff.

You can see the nose of one of the Bugs in the first pic. Nice guys, and they had super nice cars too.

Thanks again,
Bill

Happy Rainy Connecticut Saturday!

Just got the CPR page updated with those same Glastonbury Cruise images, plus some of Greg's (VW buddy who sent me the photos) background commentary:

Steve,
The jazz fest sounds like a great event it would be good if we could get all the CT pintos there.  I'll talk to Bill tonight about going.  We just got back from the Ford show in Carlisle and had a terrific time.  People seem to be gaining interest.  I also checked out the CRP site and will be returning to learn more.
Thanks for the info and the links

The Jazz Festival would indeed be a fun place to get some Pintos together. I still have to e-mail the New London Pinto guys (Glenn and George) about the possibility of a Glastonbury run some time (besides you and Bill, and of course me and my wife with our '73 Squire, they're the only people I'm aware of who actually bring Pintos out to events in the state)--I'll also mention the Jazz Festival as another option for a Pinto mini-muster.

If they come back with a strong endorsement of either event (and presumably they'd be able to bring two of their cars), perhaps I can make a bigger deal of it on the CPR page.

In all truthfulness, however, I don't hear a lot from Pinto people in the state, nor do I have many "connections" (just so you are aware of my level of any sort of "influence"--or lack thereof!).

Thanks again for the follow-up, Connie,

Steve
