So. Cal. Car Show - Sept. 10!
« on: July 06, 2011, 09:11:37 AM »
Come join us on September 10 for a retro car show in Green Valley Lake, CA!    :fastcar:

Never heard of Green Valley Lake ("GVL")?   It's called  the "Hidden Gem of the San Bernadino Mountains".   GVL is a strikingly beautiful very small community on a fishing lake between Arrowhead and Big Bear.   At 7000 feet, it's easily the highest community in the mountains.  Winters get lots of snow, and summers are in the 70's, with super clean air.

Once a year, there's a great car show.  I will be there, as will folks with vintage cars from all walks of life.   Here's a link to our town's website, and to the registration page for the show:

http://www.green-valley-lake.com/Docs/CarShowFlyer_2011.pdf

Wine will be served at my house, a real log cabin, right on the lake.  I will be showing both my '76 Pinto and my '72 Karmann Ghia.   See you there, and be sure to register and bring a fishing pole too!

Hi Blupinto,

Yes...the '76 is with a lady who rode in the very same car as a child.  Yesterday, I bought my dream Pinto - a '73 Squire.   I'm lovin' it!

And yes...cruise the Green Valley Lake website.   It's total paradise up here.  30 degrees cooler, clean air, breezes.   We even had an amazing 20 minute thunderstorm today.   Love the mountain life!

Congrats on your "new" Squire. She's a beaut! ;D

BTW, that brown '74 Squire is back on craigslist. It looks good exterior-wise but the poster said interior needs cleaning (?) and the carb needs work/replacement. Sure wish I could get that one... ;)

Bob, at your leisure, can you give me directions to where in Green Valley Lake the show will be at? I'd be coming from Oceanside (San Diego County). To go to my Dad's place in San Bernardino I take the 15 to the 215.  ;D

Blu....Below are directions.   Be sure to register if you want your car to be in the show.  We could request that Pintos be placed together...

·         Please note that Highway 330 is the best way up now.  Previously, because of mudslides and construction, folks had to use Highway 18.  That’s no longer the case.  Highway 330 is faster and a much easier drive.  Note: Many nav systems and even Google may tell you to go up Highway 18, because 330 has been closed.   This route works too, but it takes longer and is more difficult.

·         Directions: Take any number of freeways to the 210 toward San Bernadino.  From the 210, look for the Highway 330 exit.  At that point, you are 30 minutes awa.  Take Highway 330 to Running Springs, where 330 becomes  Highway 18. Continue, unless you want to stop (Running Springs is the last town with real stores).  Go approximately 2.5 miles to Green Valley Lake Road (you will see big signs).  Turn left.  Go about 3.5 miles, and you’re at the town entrance / lake.  Veer to the right when you see the “Welcome to Green Valley Lake” sign at the lake.  Follow the road to downtown (about 2 blocks).

Let me know if you are coming, and come on by for a visit!

Great!   It's a small town, so I wouldn't worry.  I'm sure they will let you in, unless it's full, which is highly unlikely. Staging is at 9am.  Show is 10am - 2pm.  Should be fun!

A huge thank you to Becky for joining me in the Annual Green Valley Lake Car Show!!!!

We're a small town, and there were only 90 cars.  Both Pintos got an amazing amount of attention, surrounded by cars that were worth upwards of $50K.

The most common comment: "My family had a Pinto when I was a kid, and........... .............. .............. ..."

Wow...we love our Pintos!  Thanks for coming, Becky!!!!

Believe me, Bob, it was my pleasure! ;D

I was SOOO afraid I was not going to be allowed to enter the show, as late as I was, but the people were very nice, and the cars beautiful. Bob was right... the Pintos got lots of attention- all good! Bob's  new '73 Squire is so yummy I wanted to make off with it! lol. Fantastic little show in a gorgeous setting... the smell of pine in the air... quiet surroundings.. . and a visit from Eddie the bald eagle. Pictures to come soon. Alas, I didn't get a portrait of Bob and his delish wagon... :'(

Alright! Found my resized pictures in (of all places) the download files.

Anyway, here are some highlights of the neat little show that was.

Pic #1 is a nice shot of the lake. #2 is the line of cars... my red gem right there in front.  ;)
