2011 Vista Rod Run
« on: July 06, 2011, 06:54:26 PM »
Hi all!

Once again my area's having a show of vintage, customs, hot rodded, etc. cars. I had a blast last year with Ruby RedHot. No, we didn't win a thing, but  she sure put smiles on a lot of faces, which put a permanent smile on mine.  :)   I would love to see more Pintos there. They seem to want cars/trucks up to '73, but Wildfire, a '74, came a couple years ago and they were fine with it.  They have a BBQ contest on Saturday the 6th of August, and the show is Sunday the 7th. It was $30 last year to enter the show- but free to look. Dan, Brad, others... I hope I'll see you there!

Looks like it's just me and Brad going... today (the Saturday before) I'm gonna taste some BBQ. Mmmmm.....

Brad's Pangra is gleaming (I know this.  ;) ) Ruby... not so much... but she'll be there anyway... bringing smiles to people who remember the basic old Pinto and reminisce about the days of old.  ;D

Becky since I am running the 73 would have gone short notice for me. Last time I called and they were not going for my 78.   Fred    :)

I know... that was dumb of them... after all, they let someone enter some car-kit-esque thing built in the '80s in (I can't remember what the #%^&*& it is- I only know it was built in FL and was a luxury car.  You should've brought the '73, called it a '72, and showed them a hot lil' Pinto!  :2fast4u:

The Rod Run was fun... lots of talking, WAYYYY lots of smiles... just another wonderful day in paradise here in mild-climate San Diego County. Several people actually THANKED me for bringing Ruby. Apparently she jarred some good memories out of people. We didn't win anything (no surprise) but I had a great time... til I locked the keys in the trunk... :P We had to be towed home. Darn trunk models!!! lol Pictures to come soon... ;D

Becky,
Glad to hear you had a good time!  Too bad about the keys, but at least it didn't ruin the entire day.

IIRC (and it was a long time ago )  regarding the locking the keys in the trunk situation

I did that too way back when & I found that you can lift out the rear seat cushion (bottom) and it will expose the fasteners that hold the seat back to the car body.  I think it was just a couple of screws at the bottom of the seat back.  Take them out, pull out a bit and release the strip at the top of the seat back from behind the metal retainer (it just slips in & under) and into the trunk you can 'squeeze"
the only substitute for cubic inches is BOOST!!!

Thanks Srt. I didn't even think of the bottom seat, but I did try to lift the back support part of the seat... and it wouldn't budge. It was a pity Mary Waterhouse (Ruby's original owner) hadn't ordered the optional folding rear seat along with the tinted windows, bright trim, deluxe interior and rocker panel moldings. lol but thank goodness for AAA. It's a bummer, though, to use up a 100 mile tow for 3 miles... :P
