2007, 3rd National Pinto Meet
« on: July 30, 2006, 02:42:08 PM »
I think it is time for us to begin planning for our third annual meet.

I would like to see replies to this post with suggested locations, then we could hone the list down with a poll and final vote. How does that sound?

I know we have 'pockets' of Pinto enthusiasts in certain regions of the US. Our first meet was in the central US, a bit east (Pigeon Forge, TN). Our secind meet was in the northeast (Carlisle, PA). Maybe it is time for a western meet. I know there are quite a few Pinto's in CA, based on the numbers in attendance at Anaheim in April.

I hope you join me in this thought as we plan where to hold our meets....where as you might not be able to make it to every annual meet, you can plan to attend one closest to you when you can. Absolutely feel free to participate in a local club and attend as many shows as you can as a group representing FordPinto.com. I like the idea of an annual FordPinto.com sanctioned/sponsored event, but feel free to do as you please in regions where you can not travel every year. If I could get even one more Pinto to join me in Tulsa, I would be proud to hang a FordPinto.com PCCA flag!

Travel costs are certainly posing a challenge to traveling very far. Some of you drive your cars many thousands of miles to a show, some trailer their cars, some don't make it  ;). Bottom line, cost is a huge factor in determining where we can travel to for an annual meet.

As for myself, I have made a commitment to attend as many annual events as I can, as well as several local and regional shows annually. I hope to be able to do this for many years to come. In a few short years I have personally met quite a few of you on here and we as a club of Pinto enthusiasts are what make this an awesome hobby.

Please take a moment to look at our member map, remember where we have been, check out concentrations of Pinto owners and let's come up with a viable location for next year, OK?

Many thanks in advance,

Dave Herbeck

I agree with Original74.I think that we need to pick a spot somewhere west of Indiana for next years meet.I will be there if at all possible.I think it should be somewhere in the middle of this fine country of ours. How about Tulsa,Ok.

Having read the previous post about  the official  meet it seams that a mid west was the general concise ,Tulsa or branson were suggested most. I probably would not be able to make it that far but  as you said not everyone  can make it to all of them.
also  i gathered that a ford sanctioned event would be a better  show  to attend, as people will just be happy to see ford's no matter of there condition.
at some point i would like to see it a dearborn , mi . greenwitch park(  hope i spelled that right)   i went there for vacation one year very nice place to visit.

I think that it should be held somewhere near St. Louis, Missouri.

Branson, Missouri...

Weight (voting weight) should be skewed toward previous years attendees with more going to 'long haulers' example might be that Harley would have more 'weight' than myself because he attended both first and second since I was unable to make it to the PA meet. (Also because Harley can get Hooter Girls to do things I can't get them to do...)

I donno...

Thought?  Course, this might not allow newbies to vote objectively for a meet near them...

Just a thought....

It would be nice to have a meet somewhere in the heartland of the country. I'm sure I could find a place to meet here in Sioux Falls. This is a very welcoming city for car events. The local Ford dealer sponsors an all Ford show in June also.

There is a large car meet in Deadwood, SD at the end of August also, cars come from all over the country for that meet, it's called Kool Deadwood Nights.

I'll watch this thread for a week & note the various locations that are suggested. At the end of the week I'll post up a preliminary poll. As for a western meet, budgetary concerns tell me I likely won't be able to attend (read that as I'm too blamed broke to come)

Like last time I'll pitch in with organization, & I'll do anything in my power to help.

Look for a poll next Monday. This in NO way will produce final answers, rather get a feel for when, where the bulk of the members will be willing to meet.

Hey Phil,

Are you talking about Greenfield Village in Dearborn? The place Henry Ford built?
I went there by special invite in June 2005. Their show is called Motor Musters. There are about 600 cars. They only allowed 1933-1973 cars and they opened up the 2005 show to 4 invites, a 74, me, a 75 and a 76. Only myself and a 1976 Pacer showed up as feature cars, but it was a blast. They have been running that show for 20 years and I was the first Pinto they had ever seen.
They opened the 2006 show up to 1933-1976. They do not want modified cars, probably not too popular on this board. But for those that are proud of our original unrestored cars, it's the place to be! It was the same time as Carlisle was. I will definitely make it there again. Motor Musters is always like the first week of June. Well worth the history and fun to go to.

YES IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A "PINTO" MEET IN YOUR OWN BACK YARD: BUT THIS IS SIMPLY NOT POSSIBLE FOR US ALL.

THIS NEEDS TO BE DECIDED WITH ALL MEMBERS IN MIND,  NOT ON THE BASIS OF PERSONAL INTEREST.

I WILL SUPPORT A GROUP DECISION AND TRY TO ATTEND WHEREEVER THE GROUP DECIDES TO HOLD TH 3RD ANNUAL EVENT.

A WESTERN MEET WOULD BE NICE.  BUT CA. WOULD BE A STREACH FOR MOST EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI.

I LIKE THE IDEA OF SACTIONED REGIONAL EVENTS-EAST,MIDWEST,WEST; IN ADDITION TO AN ANNUAL NATIONAL EVENT.

THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOICE MY THOUGHTS.

If the plans are made early and i have something to tow with, i'll try to attend wherever it may be. My wife works at a large hotel chain and the most any hotels will cost me is $69 a night and half off in hotel restaurants!  My new motor and turbo setup will be done and in the car for the next meet for sure.

I am still for having it in Milwaukee the first weekend in May at the famed Milwaukee Mile Speedway. I will know for sure in about a month or so if the date is confirmed and if it is, we can share the track with about 500 other hot rods and customs. Of course we as a group would have special parking and go out on the track to do laps first. I would also make sure the local media got involved and a couple of the members might be asked to go on the radio the Friday before.
As far as the Friday and Saturday leading up to the show on Sunday, there is a lot to do in the area with a cruise night happening almost every day. I have talked with a couple of the Ford clubs and they are more than willing to host a night for us. I am sure that I could get a dealership to host a small show on Saturday.
Just let me know what you all think and i will pass it along to the folks at the Milwaukee Mile.

As long as everyone is pushing for their neck of the wood`s...I`d have to say Sacramento,Calif. But then I am a bit biased...not everyone want`s to or can travel 2500-3000 mile`s for an event...I just figure it`s kinda central for those of us on the West coast...Let`s face it...not all of us will be happy with where it is!
Just my two cent`s worth!
Where ever it is I`ll do my best to be there...Oh Yeah! ;D

If my memory serves me right,i do believe that as a group that attended the first gathering. We did agree on having the national gathering in Branson,Mo. next year.I think we also said that maybe the 2008 would be in Vegas or Reno.If anyone can confirm this please do.If we do have it in Nev. i plane on being there, maybe without the Rallye but i plan on going. We need to settle this issue soon ,so we as a group can start to get things organized.

The problem is/was that the group you are referring of did not represent the   " body" of this site. Because of that, there are some people who are not happy with that " agreement". The Administrators of this site are having a discussion regarding this issue. There will be another discussion regarding organized events as soon as we can resolve some issues. Stay tuned.

As a west coaster as you call us, the Reno thing sounds great, I would travel thru a couple of states to get there, Sacramento don't sound to bad either, but a real long haul back to the east coast or mid west is out of the question at this time.
Gas at 3.00 a gallon, driving a car that is 30+ years old or putting it on a trailer and towing and putting on a quick 3000+ mile journey is a bit of a streach for me as I am not a rich man. Hope everything works out as I believe we should have the next meet in Tacoma, Wa. (just kidding)!!

Ok.... So I have not been here for long, and I missed the last one because I bought the PINTO less than 30 days before the show...but I REALLY, REALLY wanna go to the next meet.

With that said....

I can not drive to CA.... eevn though I would love to see that stae... too far, too costly and way too long to sit in a PINTO.... at least in mine!

I am in favor of soemthing evenly spaced for everyone... although the Milwakee Mile sounds like a blast... and that they would WELCOME us as a group... that to me is important... I hate to hear.  eeeeewwwww a PINTO !?!?

I wanna hear  """ WOW... COOL.... A PINTO! """

So, there My say is recorded, as much as it means.....
I can say if it is within 900 miles and my car isnt blown up from the TEENS driving it....I will go 'where ever' for a cool PINTO show !

Another option would be to hold the event on the East coast one year and on the West coast the next year ( or Mid-west;Southeast, etc). Another organization I belong to (R/C boat racing) does this and it works very well. It gives everyone a chance to attend the event every other year. Very few people will drive across country to attend an event for one or two days ( cost, vacation time, reliability issues, etc.). It might also be helpful to make our Pinto event part of another larger event for greater exposure-i.e. a West coast Pinto meet in conjunction with Fabulous Fords Forever at Knotts Berry Farm. We had 19 Pintos at this event last year and it was a blast. Regards, Joe

As a "West coaster" I would have to say that some where in te middle of the country so that every one has somewhat of a shot at attending. I think the Deadwood South Dakota is a good neutral spot. I was there in '99 for the Sturgis Bike ralley and there is a lot of History to see there. That is my vote. That is all I have to say...Rob

As one of those that attended the meet this year I do say it would be fair to move it around & depending where it is I'll be there. Also as one of those that had car troubles, all I can say is the trip can be taxing on the cars if they aren't driven much. Mine went about 950 estimated miles before it left me on the side of the road with a crapped out carb.

Bottom line is make sure it is 100% ready before driving your pinto any long distance. Even then that's no guarantee that it will make it. I did all I could including rebuilding the carb a month before & STILL had problems.

Gettign off my soap box now.

I've attended both national meets and would probably go the third if it is within reasonable distance.

The main thing here is "PINTO" was fun then (1970-1980) and should be today.

What I hear is bickering and threats of "sanctioning" a meet.  Is this group for the enjoyment of our  "Pintos", modified or restored, or a p----ing contest of power?  Organization is good to a point but control will ruin a good thing.

We will continue to gather locally, regionally and hopefully nationally with or without the said "heads of state".

Think about it before this gets out of control.

Well, how do I begin to respond to this??? First, I will say that this has been a VERRY healthy discussion that involves ALL of us. Second, just who are you referring to as " heads of state" ? If you are implying that the AdMin on this site, which I am one of, are ( because of discussion and wanting to address the entire body of this site) " ruining a good thing" I think you are misled and have not been following the discussion. I can tell you this. WE ( the body of this site) will come up with a fair and just scenario for a National/Regional or other " sanctioned" event despite wether you feel it is getting out of controll. And by making a statement like the one you have just made makes me believe you have nothing constructive to say an this subject. Your comments are incitefull and that is not what this discussion is about. IF, the " heads of state " ( as you put it) were bent on a socialistic government we would not be asking the entire board for impute. Most sincerely ( one of the heads of state)

well put Brad. Maybe he's planning to overthrow us? ;D  A pinto/bobcat meet can happen anytime anywhere and i'm sure it will be well received by all of us. A pi--ing contest of power....where does that come from.....reall y? I don't think you will find ANYWHERE on this site that the "heads of state" have ruled with an iron fist and laid down the law. (yet ;D)  I think it was an unfair comment and if you don't take it back.....the banning stick shall be brought to bear upon thou ;) ;) ;)  or the banhammer....w hatever we decide!

We hope to make it to this meet, as this years was a blast.

I hope I am not out of line here, however I need to bring up one thing that bothered me about Carlisle this year. There were the about the same number of Mavericks as Pintos in the show (an example), and ALL 6 Mavericks that won were in the parade VS. 2 Pintos. If this were a regular show, well, ok, but at our National Pinto Meet where we PROMOTE ourselves and our cars? I understand that the parade is a bit of a pain, but there were HUNDREDS of people that took the time and effort to vote on these cars. IMHO: If you do not plan to partake in any award activities (time or other concerns), please ask that you car not be voted on.

Sorry, just my $.02.

Bill

Hi
I was at the 2nd pinto meet and it was a blast. Thanks to the PCCA there will be a regular pinto class next year. I did win a FOMOCO pick award but did not go in the parade. I dont think it would have made it with out over heating, with having the full blone racing motor in sorry. I feel that it is to hard to pick one place and make everyone happy. How about three shows each year, west, midd and east?
thanks
