Title: motor mounts for 2.3 turbo.
Post by: L.D on September 13, 2013, 07:17:22 PM
starting to mock up my motor mounts in my 71 for 2.3 merkur swap and a t-9 looking at some recent photos it looks like one of the holes just about lines up with the exiting nuts. Do you have to cut the back side of the mount that is going to be welded to the frame because of the flare on the bottom of the frame going towards the cross member or gring that area flat?

Here are a couple of pictures of my 2.3 Turbo in a '73 wagon.  You might have it slightly easier because the '73 has a odd one year only rack that has a bulbous knob on it.

As it regards the passenger side (showing in the picture), and the lower front threaded bolt hole in the frame rail; my lower front mount hole (center) is 3/4" down and 1/4" to the rear of that hole. You can faintly see this in the first picture. If you can enlarge it, it may help.  I don't remember grinding other than removing the old mounts. Likely every car is different so my measurement should just be considered ballpark.

I had my engine in/out 7 times before I was willing to commit. Every car is likely different  and everything it SO tight, probably 3/16" clearance at the rack, oil pan, starter bearing and hood (also 1/4" at the pulley bolt to radiator).

All the best.  Frankly pulling the trigger on the MIG was like saying "I do" at my wedding.
