My race car (1968 AMX) has a Pinto front end. I think it is a pre-1974 but I am not sure. It is time to change brake calipers so I think I need to know what vintage the spindles are so that I can order the correct brackets to convert to GM metric calipers.
Is there any easy way to tell what vintage the spindles are? Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the info, Tony. Is there any way by looking at my spindle to determine if it is pre or post 1974?

Measure the distance from the top outside face to the bottom outside face of the spindle where the ball joints enter. The early spindles measure about 6-7/8" and the late model spindles measure about 7-5/8". There was a vendor years ago that made brackets for the early spindles but no more. This great thread by Turbopinto72 shows how to modify the present day late model spindle brackets to fit the early spindles (you may need to adjust it depending on the rotors you use) http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php/topic,1103.0.html
Note if you have late model spindles, there are two styles available: the stock height spindle and a 2" drop after market spindle. They take different brackets.
Thank you, Jerry. I measured the spindle and I wasn't lucky, I have the pre-74 spindles. I will study the link you gave me and go from there. Thanks again.

I am trying to do it "on the cheap". Hey, I am an AMC guy, it's in our DNA!
I am aware of the complete kit option but I have expensive race rotors with new bearings that I do not want to discard so I am trying to mate new calipers to my existing rotors. It looks like I need to buy Wilwood calipers and build my own mounting brackets.
There sure are lots of options for post-74 set-ups but nothing for pre-74.
