I just dragged home my first Pinto, and I really like it.
1971, 2.0 motor, auto, discs up front, manual steering and brakes, red, black vinyl top and interior, later 15 inch mustang wheels, later mustang seats.
Needs carpet, cleaning, polishing miscellaneous cosmetic work, but otherwise seems okay! Runs great after I put gas in it, but I was able to haggle $750 off the price from the seller because it wouldn't start. Oh well.
I plan on cleaning and polishing it, replacing the carpet, securing the seats better, repainting the interior (plastic and metal is faded), reupholstering the dash, adding A/C, replacing the shocks, tinting the windows, adding louvers on the rear windows, adding a rear spoiler and a front air dam. I am trying to maximize fuel efficiency in this little car.
In the glove box I found some neat goodies: the original 1971 Pinto "Operating Features" booklet, the original Warrant Facts Booklet, the original Car Care and Operation manual, and the Pinto Do it Yourself Manual. Pretty cool.
I have a question, is my grille supposed to be black or silver? It looks like a previous owner spray painted the aluminium grill black.
Thanks! Now I need to install a quad 8-track....:afro:
NIce!!! good find
:fastcar: That looks like its in nice shape. The grills are supposed to be silver, IMO they look better in black and it seems like a lot of other members have them painted.
1971+2.0...How did Pintony miss this car?
So far the body seems pretty solid. It was factory rustproofed/undercoated and looks nice and sollid underneath. There is some surface rust on the floor but no holes i have found. There also feels like some rust under the vinyl top, but I think it can wait until I can afford to replace the top. I have already ordered a new carpet set to replace the indoor/outdoor carpet area rug that is currently on the floor.
I odn't know about this black grill. I kind of like the look of silver.I will see how it looks after I get the car all shined up.
What seats will interchange with a 71 Pinto sedan? Upon closer inspection it looks like whoever put these seats in did not use the correct seat track so the seats aren't adjustable, plus the driver's seat is coming off of its floor mount.
I am also looking for front and rear bumper guards.
man ur the one that beet me out of it!!!!!! con grads!
welcome another wa member !!! cool
very nice... congrats ;D

The grill was originally silver, or in Ford lingo argent. If you want the exact color you can find it at the mustang restoration places.
Seats from Escorts will fit in your Pinto without modifications.

Thanks for the compliments. The tire size on mine is 215/60R15.
I pulled the indoor/outdoor carpet that someone had laid down in place of the original carpet and discovered some very minor floor rust out and that the driver's deat bracket was broken. No big deal, I should be able to weld in some patch panels and I have already ordered new carpet. I am getting new seat rails from Fred Morgan too, so all should be well. Now I need to find replacements for the grey Mustang seats and find out why the floors tusted from the inside. Seeing as I live in Washington it is possible that the rust on the floors has been caused by 37 years of wet feet being placed on the floor, but I still want to check for plugged cowl drain holes, bad windshield gasket, and leaks around the wiper pivots.
:)
Oh, yes, be very thoroutgh about checking the condition of your cowl. I had a monster hiding under my front driver's fender which is still unrepaired; I am in the process of securing some shop space so I can get some serious disassembly going. Best wishes!
Chris
So I guess that you will be in Tulsa next year.
