Title: OTHER "Dynamat" type material?
Post by: popbumper on July 07, 2008, 05:22:15 PM
Hi guys:

Are there any less expensive alternatives to this material (meaning, similar in performance but at less cost than the brand name)? What have you guys used? I want to underlay my trans tunnel and floor pans with it; my floor repair is nearly done and it's time to source it. Thanks!

Chris

yes there is and you can buy it from Lowes.  it is actuallay a flexable flashing material.  I don't have the name in front of me but it is about 14" across but is some like 20 feet on a roll.  You will also need some cans of spray adhesive.

i got this tip from MAP, see Mike I do pay attention.  if you are reading this perhaps you could correct the details. :read:

Doesn't Dynamat also serve as a noise barrier as well?

When my oldest brother drove my Pinto he put some sheets of Dynamat under the trunk lid and on the doors. I removed what was on the doors when I did actuator work on them but I don't really notice much of a difference.

Youch, anyone interested in reading about materials of this type might consider visiting "sounddeadenershowdown.com". What an eye opener! I am convinced now that spending more money is a better way to go, rather than a visit to Lowe's. I hate to say it, but you really do "get what you pay for" sometimes; research helps.

Dynamat is a very effective sound deadener, well worth the money. Unfortunately it is also very heavy.it added about 70 to 80 pounds to my car

I used the "Peal and Seal" on the floor & firewall of my pinto to control the engine & exhaust noise it's lighter & cheaper, How can it fall off the inside on top of the floor?
It's still on the inside firewall hasn't moved and has been through some hot 90+ in the sun with the windows up..

If you want to save a few Bux do all the low surfaces with Peal & seal and the roof with the expensive mat.
