Is the headliner just pushed under the windshield gasket or is it folded up and around it? I heard I would need to remove the windshield to install it correctly, but Im not really against just pushing it (neatly) under the gasket if its going to look and perform the same. Ive never done anything like a headliner installation before. While I was searching the forums for an answer I noticed a few other guys had. Is it something easy and straight forward or is it something I might want to leave to the pros?
The reason I ask is scheduled to be painted on july 11th and I thought that might be the time to have the windshield taken out so I can put in the liner?
I am 99% sure the headliner is folded around the lip. To do it right you should fold it under the gasket lip. I think you would be safe gluing it under the windshield gasket but I would not glue it around the rear window (if yours is a sedan) as you could have problems with it staying attached during the summer months. The heat softening the adhesive and wind from driving with the windows down puts pressure in that area, making the headliner come free. I glued a headliner in on my 67 mustang to save money but I was never happy with it so I redid it properly a few years later. Headliners are pretty simple. The key is having it warm when you do it as it will be difficult to get the wrinkles out otherwise. Good luck
