Ok, you guys can have a laugh at this one - having just got the car I was checking it out carefully and noticed that, along with the A/C compressor, there looked to be a SECOND compressor unit. I thought - "what gives" with that? - until a friend of mine who owned Pintos in the past said it was probably a smog pump.
Ah-hah! Man, I had NO idea what it was, because, I have NEVER owned a car with one on it! My '77, '79 and '80 models did not have one. You guessed it - living in Texas, there are no emissions tests for vehicles that are 24 years old or older (1984 and below), so I plan to have it removed. Why have the motor labor over something that is really not needed?
Yes, I am a >bit< green, I admit it.
