What would you folks recommend as a "must have" manual for my '76? Given that I'll probably start pulling out the tool box and socket set soon, it would be nice to have good documentation. Chilton? Haynes? Other? Please advise, thanks!
Chris
Chris short of owning the actual Ford shop manuals I bought my Daughter a copy of the Petersens Complete book of Pinto.
the book I bought has the 77/78 pintos on the front in orange.
Also since your starting your project don't be afraid to use the search option on the forum for some of your questions lots of restoration bits have been documented with photo's on the site...
Enjoy

Thanks Frank, will do.

You know, truthfully, someone needs to write a restoration manual for Pintos. Someday, someone's gonna want one. I know I would.
Popbumper,
Haynes is closest to owning the actual ford services manuals. I have just about every manual and the one i would not recommend is Clymer. Each one offers a bit different view on how to fix some things.

Thanks Phil.

In addition to the above, you can get old copies of the original Ford manuals on ebay. These manuals cover all models for that year. Here is a current listing for 76: I no experience with this seller.

Another manual that may help is the Ford "Electrical Troubleshooting Manual" for the "1976 Pinto & Bobcat". These are model and year specific but there are presently no listings for this manual on ebay. Note in later years this manual is titled "Electrical & Vacuum Trouble-Shooting Manual".
Excellent, thanks much for the link!!
Chris

I agree like i said i do have just about every manual the electrical trouble shooting manual is good for large diagams and color coding of the wires but not a well for finding some smaler problems.
r4pinto may have a 76 trouble shooting manual as he picked up a couple while in carlisle and offered me on but i already had one.

I happened across a listing for the Ford "Electrical Troubleshooting Manual" for the "1976 Pinto & Bobcat". Again I do not have experience with any of these sellers. The shipping from this seller seems a little higher than normal for printed media.

I just won a set of Ford shop manuals on EBAY for the low, low price of $16.02, shipped. Can't wait!
