So, i'm looking at getting a 71 pinto sedan from a fellow up the road for parts. The body is restorable, but it'll be a LOT of work. As far as I know, the only thing rusted out is the trunk floor. But the only reason I'm getting it is it only has 39,000 miles on it. The guy ran it in a ditch and screwed the steering up. Parked it in 74 and its sit there since.
Anyway, I was looking at the registration and it only weighs 1983 lb. Thats with a 2.0. My 73 runabout has a 2.0 (and ac) and comes in at 2350.
I know the AC ads some weight, but not that much. Any idea where the extra weight is?

In 1973 they added side impact door braces that weigh about a TON. 73 also had an aluminum front bumper brace ( a piece that went inside the bumper) and sturdy front bumper brackets.

Yeah, I went out and looked closely at my '72 wagon's bumpers in regard to another post a while back. No sub-bracing and very flimsy.
