Title: Fiberglass interior parts
Post by: wedge446 on June 09, 2008, 05:30:56 PM
I`ve been making some fiberglass parts for motorcycles for awhile now and tried to make a mold for my hinge cover on wagon but my plug was way to brittle and the mold didn`t turn out right.

Well, I got another stock hinge cover from earthquake(THANKS AGAIN)and I think I`m going to try make another mold from it..

Would anyone like a new fiberglass hinge cover for there wagon?
If there is an interest in them I`ll make the mold strong enough for several pulls, if not I`ll just make a single pull mold.
I`m thinking the cost would be around $100 for them..
All input welcome.

I think it would be cool to have an option...

I would pay $100 if I couldn't find a good used one... and even then only for a show car.

just my opinion...

couple things to consider...

some have a light built in...

are they all the same? size? mount holes?

If you can make one for a '78 CW I would be very interested.

I was looking to make my own.  I would also want Left and Right inner window rings, too.

Then I would also want a rallye spoiler glassed.   ;D

$100 is pricey, IMHO, but if it is better quality than what I can make... it would be worth it.

1.  Do you have any examples of prior work?
2.  How many layers of glass are you expecting to use?

As far as I know all wagons use the same hinge cover, (I could be wrong)
The only problem I forsee is the color, I either use white or black gelcoat when making parts(whatevers on sell at the time)and with the texture of the cover its kinda hard to sand... It would have to be painted with something thats self eitching..

Items like rallye spoilers and trim rings are kinda ease to repop but I would need the part to make the mold and sometimes the part doen`t survive the process..

I`m going to use 4 layers of 1.5oz of chop on mine just to see how stiff it will be..
Check ebay and look for ninja 500 mid panels,  those are the latest ones I`ve made
