I`m thinking of going with a viscous style cooling fan in place of the direct drive it has.. I don`t want an ele. fan
I`ve found in racing that a viscous type fan clutch works really good when wanting to free up some power but still move the air when needed..
I`m after MPG
Is there a bolt on viscous fan & fan clutch for the pinto?
just go to ur parts store and look for a 90 ranger clutch. u will need a fan for that same app. it going to be about 60$
Thanks, thats just the info I needed.
An update for people wanting to do this..
I got a fan/clutch from a 90 ford ranger and it look like it will work good on there (BTW, there are 2 fan sizes small & big) Either one will work fine...
Here it comes, BUT! the pilot shaft on a pinto water pump is to big to fit the ranger fan clutch, the water pump needs to be changed to a ranger pump for it to work($45)...It kinda sux seeing that I just installed a new water pump on the pinto 2 months ago..
Anyone want to buy a used water pump?
sorry i should have remembered to mention that but the ranger one come in aluminum too. if u look around. it only saves about 1 lb but hay that on less pound.
All the ranger pumps I`m finding are cast iron, maybe I should look at a mustang pump(if that matters)
I did sit the pinto & ranger pump side by side and the only thing different is the rangers pump has the pilot shaft turned down smaller at the end..
If I have to buy a new pump it will be aluminum.
Thanks
