Post by: pbean09 on June 03, 2008, 09:46:56 PM
I'm looking for an electric fan to put in the Bean and was wondering what is the best setup y"all have found? What is the easy install.

I have installed them in a couple of my Pintos. They are not hard to do as most come with the zip-ties to mount them on the radiator. You have to decide if you want one that comes on automaticly, a full manual one, or one that will let you do both.

My question back to you is why do you want to do this?

Some people remove the stock one to get more power from the engine(like me), others install them because they think that electric ones just cool better.

Mechanical fans, like the stock ones bolted to the waterpump, provide the best airflow.

Most electric fans do a better job 'pulling' than they do 'pushing'.

The fan is very important to the survival of your engine, this might not be an item to 'cut-corners' with.

Keep these details in mind when you buy one.

The reason I want one is because their isn't a shroud on the mech. one in the car and in town it wil tend to get little over heated. What fan do you think would be easiest to put in.

Are you absolutely sure the problem is the fan, or lack of a shroud?

A stock set up works very well if all the components are functioning properly.

What do you have for an engine? Is it stock? is the radiator in GOOD condition? Is the t-stat working?

By "overheating" do you mean that it 'boils-over' or does the engine light come on (or a gauge indication)?

Please keep in mind that the factory sending unit and or gauge are not all that accurate.

Not knowing what you have for an engine, or if you have an A/C car it is hard to say what you should do.

If you are having a problem, your best bet is to get a shroud, a 5 blade fan, or a bigger radiatior.

ADDED: Another thing you can do is install a taller spacer to move the fan closer to the radiatior.

I have a V-6 2.8L out of a 75 mustang.  it doesn't boil over but It's not far from it.
