Title: Clutch Dilemma
Post by: Wittsend on May 31, 2008, 12:29:34 AM
Well..., Project Turbo Pinto is hit it's first wall.  The T/C has a hydraulic setup.  Thus, the clutch actuates by pushing it back.  The standard Pinto setup is cable and actuates by pulling forward.  By virtue of how each system works the clutch fork pivot points are on opposite sides of input shaft.

The last thing I want to do is hunt up, pull out and pay for a "proper" bellhousing. My concern is NOT "how I will fasten the cable to the bellhousing," I have a number of ideas to accomplish that. So, getting a correct bellhousing for that reason is not important to me. My concern is the mechanical leverage aspects of the pivot point as it relates to the longer, cable style clutch fork and the shorter hydraulic style clutch fork.  So:

1. Does anyone know if the T/C, T-5 bellhousing has a threaded boss (for the pivot ball) on the opposite side of the input shaft to use with a cable type fork?  This way I would only have to replace the fork.

2. Or, does anyone know if the closer pivot point on the hydraulic system fork  provides enough leverage to work with a cable?  It seems the possibility exists that the pedal effort may be too high.  The reason I ask is that I was contemplating using a longer cable and just pulling the exists setup from behind - if the leverage is appropriate.  This method only requires adapting a longer cable.

I would appreciate any input.  Keep in mind I'm cheap and I like to fabricate.

Thanks, Tom
