Title: V8 Pinto questions
Post by: Twister_Reject on May 25, 2008, 12:12:05 PM
Well after a long debate I have decided to go with a V8 instead of a restore. The reason I got the car was because it reminded me of my Poison Pinto Hot Wheel I had as a kid. So now I'm going to build my Poison Pinto. I bought a '68 289 with a 3 speed. I plan on a wild 289 backed with a 4-speed. I am also thinking 9" rear. I know it can be done, but a little advice never hurt a guy, right? I read through this site that a 8" works great, so my first question is what size meats can I stuff in the rear using a bolt up 8" rear? Also when it comes to engine/tranny mounts I have not a clue. The car has a V6 and a 4 speed out of a '75 mustang II. Can I use those mounts for anything? Any advice, pointers, or answers would helpful to me.

So 9" it is, thanks for the heads up. How hard is it to get a c4 in there?

You need to find a C-4 trans out of a Cobra V-8 Mustang II  it has a smaller bellhousing and torque converter w/this set up you dont have to cut the firewall & floor to fit you just have to bend the pinch weld down where the tunnel meets the firewall

Hey Twister, not sure what year your car is, I am posting a step by step swap on my "71. Trying to put as much info as possible to help others. Take a look under "'71 V8 swap-let the fun begin"

I am using a c-5 out of a mercury Capri. It just requires a bit of work with a bfh on the fire wall. I also used the stock tranny mount.
