Due to the fact that gas is a $1.89 here and the syncro for 2nd gear is going out in my pinto, i'd like to put a 5spd in place of the 4 speed. I've got a 5 speed out of an 80's 2.3 ranger.
Its my understanding that the bolt patterns for 2.3's and 2.0's are different. Is there any modifications I could do to the bellhousing or anything I could get to make it bolt up?
Also, is the flywheel for a 2.3 the correct ballance for a 2.0? Thanks.

Depending on your welding/fab skills, making an adapter really isn't all that hard... if you have the ability to weld, to read a tape measure and drill a hole accurately, you can adapt pretty much anything to anything. Now, the input shaft might need to be shortened and you might need to have a new pilot bushing machined... oh, you will prolly need to fab yourself some nice custom tranny mounts too... will the fun never end???
heck, right now in my garage I have two adapters for the 2.0, one a "Pinto Beans" 2.0 to VW adapter, and one to adapt the 2.0 to a t-90 three speed, no, wait, that one sold. but all the same, theyt seem to be pretty adaptable motors
[colorHave a T-5 in my 72 Runabout. Will never go back to the 4 speed again. >:(
The top two holes are higher on a 2300, everything else matches up.
I did mine with a mig welder with a seperate aluminum spool gun with argon gas.
The other issues, the locating pins are smaller on the 2 liter so you have to make bushings to locate the bellhousing correctly. Also if you use the standard mechanical clutch cable, it will hit the crossmember. I modified mine to fit.
You will need a longer throw out bearing available from Esslinger or Walsh.
The stock mounting tranny bracket can be modified to fit.
I used a 75 automatic driveshaft that fit the tranny and my 8" rear fine.
Have some pics left of the install but am not sure if they are postable.=Red][/color]
Go to Pangra project and you will see the tabs I made for my T5 to 2.0L.
