My mechanic fixed(resealed) the housing as it was leaking a very tiny amount. He said it doesn't contain an actual thermostat. He is typically an exceptional mechanic and totally honest. He has been my mechanic for ten years. He saw the leak while looking it over since he was doing front end work long overdue. Could someone comment please asi had never heard of any old cars without thermostat. Thanks, Larry
Larry they all have thermostat's including boat's. Older car's would run 180 deg. stat. I liked running 160, all newer auto's run 195 deg. due to smog operation. Some car's with stat's out would run cooler other's would overheat because water would pass through rad. to fast not giving it time to cool. Fred ??? :)
Thanks so much for the reply Fred---I'll show it to my mechanic. I normally run around 195/200 according to the temperature aftermarket gauge. The other day here in riverside Calif it was over a hundred degrees out! So the temp climbed to about 210 and almost 220 if i was just sitting on the freeway ideling in traffic....sound right?
